Hi,

Just wondering after seeing a lot of threads mentioning tipping for Mousekeeping - is that "expected"??

We have a trip planned for September at the Pop Century. I hadn't really given any thoughts to tipping mousekeeping (I must be used to Motel 8!!), however I certainly would not want to "short" anyone.

So if tipping is standard, how much would you tip? is is per person, per night?

Also who else is it standard to tip at the hotel? Just making sure! I would never want to short someone who is working so hard and depending on tips!!

Thanks so much!! :wave2:

We tip $5 a night, more if it is a very fancy hotel or we are extra messy. Tip each night, not at the end of your stay, to make sure the person cleaning your room is the one who gets it. Make sure it is in an envelope marked Housekeeping (or Mousekeeping) they will not take cash that you leave out. We tip housekeeping where ever we stay, not just in WDW. We also tip anyone that handles our luggage ($1 per bag) and if you have something brought up to the room (food, extra towels, whatever).

I have heard of people tipping the front desk at check in, but I do not think that is standard.

I don't think that tipping is required, but I certainly do tip every day. We tip $4 or $5 a day (there are 2 adults and 2 children). We always pick up our trash and try to keep the room tiddy. I feel guilty leaving them a mess :guilty: . I'm sure you will get a lot of opinions here, but I believe that housekeepers are underpaid for the hard work they put in, so I definitely tip them to show my appreciation. :sunny:

WE stayed at pop recently and tipped 1 dollar a person in the room so I left 4 dollars a day 2 dollars on each bed at the pillows not in an envelope and it was takin and we got extras like 5 towel animals and tons of extra soaps and shampoos and extra towels daily! Have fun!

Tipping is not standard. Tipping is not expected. Mousekeeping at WDW is not considered, (BY Disney), to be a tipped position. Every survey I have ever seen shows that most people do *not* tip housekeeping.

Having said all that, I tip $3 - $5 per night.

I agree that mousekeeping (housekeeping everywhere) is underpaid esp. for the work they do. I always tip $5/day and a little extra if there is some sort of extra mess. I often will write on the envelope, if I want extra towels or whatever and leave a little more then, also. I haven't yet stayed at Disney, but housekeeping has always been very generous with my requests.
I mostly wanted to post here because I think that it is really important to treat those in the service industry with courtesy and respect. We always pick up a little, leave nothing on the bed to get in the way of it being made, put our dirty towels in tub (so if there are clean they don't all have to be replaced) that sort of thing. I make my children do the same. I believe this is a lesson all children should learn. I hope it is rare, but I have encountered some people who seem to think they are above those who are doing this work. (This includes waiters and waitresses, as well) Do unto others...
Whether you tip or not is a personal choice and you shouldn't feel obligated.
Just my $.02.

We just came back from Pop a couple of weeks ago. We left about $4 each day for housekeeping. On our check out day, she came to our door that morning and said thank-you for the money. I thought that was very nice of her to thank us. That has never happened before in any of our resort stays.
She did leave us towel animals, extra towels and soaps throughout our stay. Also, after she said thank-you, I left her an extra $10 to show our appreciation.

Thanks so much for your quick replies!! This is the most awesome discussion board I have ever visited!! Everybody is so nice!!

I don't necessarily feel obligated to leave a tip, but I definitely would want to if most people do. I always keep my room picked up and would not leave a mess for them to clean up and I make sure the kids pick up their stuff too.

A few towel animals wouldn't hurt!! ;) (I just had to throw that in!)

Thanks so much!!

I hope you didn't think I necessarily meant you. I just wanted to put that out there for anyone reading this thread.
I hope you get your towel animals. :cheer2:

I tipped $1 per person per day. It was just dd (she was 3 at the time) and I in the room and I tipped $2/day. The housekeeper left us a thank you note. :)

We are a family of 4 and I tip $5 per day.

We, also, tip $5.00 a day. We have two adults and 2 teenagers. We always try to pick up the room so it is not to messy. We never put money in an envelope, we just leave it on the bed and it has always been taken. We will leave a note for extra towels, shampoo, etc. and mousekeeping is very good about bringing the extra stuff. I don't feel obligated to tip, but I feel these people work very hard and I think they deserve the little extra. We have always received a thank you note the last day from our mousekeeper thanking us for our tips.
