I was just wondering what the procedure is for tipping the maids that clean your rooms. We will be in a 2 bedroom at SSR. Is it daily tipping or upon check out.

I tip daily because the Mousekeeper may be different every day.
Usually I tip $1.00 to $2.00 per person per day. It depends on how messy we are! I hope that helps.

Housekeeping is a non-tipped position. Tipping is not necessary for normal service. However, if you have special requests or leave a big mess, they appreciate the extra cash.

Will you be staying on points or on cash through CRO? If on points, they will only come to your room once every four days.

We leave $5.00 per day. We're a couple, and we never leave the room messy. I've found if I tidy up a bit housekeeping can do a much better job. I leave a little note attached to the bill with either just thanks or an additional request like more coffee paks.
We leave the same pretty much anyplace we go, Disney or not.
At Disney, we've only done hotel stays. If you're part of the timeshare, I don't know anything about that.

I also leave $5 a day for us (a couple, no children). When we stay DVC, I leave money on our cleaning day (4th day) plus on our last morning before leaving.

1) Maids get paid up to $12.54/hr.
2) Maids get incentive pay.
3) maids get to go home early and be paid for it.

4) We don't tip maids at WDW, as they are well compensated vs other hotels.

We tip $5/ night for 2 of us at hotels everywhere. We never ask or care about what their hourly salary is as it is not our business.

We put $1 - $2 dollars per person in an envelope and leave it on the nightstand. We've always been happy with our maid service -- if it was really lacking, I don't think we would continue to tip.

In the past, we just wrote "Mousekeeping" on it, a thank-you, and put a Disney sticker on it.

This year, I googled disney mousekeeping envelopes and found a site that let you print out (for free) cute pictures on your envelopes. We printed a bunch. They say "thank you" and then there was room to put our name on them. They came in every theme imaginable, from Lion King, to princess, to pirates. We're looking forward to using them soon!:)

I personally don't tip maids at hotels. The majority of people don't....me and my sister both did housekeeping when we were in high school. I was at a bed and breakfast, she was at an upscale 5 star resort. She said she got a few tips, and the room was usually very messy in those cases. I never got a single tip in the 2-3 months I did it.
It is definitely not expected, but any maid certainly would not mind.

I always leave $2 a day. We are a family of four now. No it is not a lot, nor is it necassary, but housekeeping is a service position, and I like to spread the love when I am on vacation! If I can brighten someones day even a little with just a couple of dollars, why not?

Well, this is odd. I came to this thread thinking the discussion would be whether to tip at the end of the stay, or nightly. Not whether or not to tip.

I work for the Federal Government, and travel a lot for work. Everyone I work with is required to travel for work on a regular basis. I don't know anyone who doesn't tip maid service at ALL (and no, we're not reimbursed for it when it's business travel).

Then again, thinking of someone working their way up to $12.50 an hour, and trying to live on/raise a family on that doesn't really scream "doesn't need my tip money" to me. But that's just me. Tips aren't required, obviously. I usually leave a couple dollars a night, and I clean up after myself.

DH and I leave $2/day. We place the bills on the bed every morning. We do this every where we stay. I don't bother with envelopes. The cash has always been picked up. Maids do not work every day so if you leave the entire tip at the end, it might end up in the hands of someone who was there only once or twice. Leaving it daily is the only fair way to go.

BTW, DH can be a real slob on vacation so I always 'pick up' after him. (Throw out trash, empty soda cans, etc.)

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm not extremely messy. I leave 1 to 2 $ a day per person. If I ask for something extra I leave an extra buck or two. The only people I know that don't leave housekeeping (or mousekeeping) tips, are the same people I know that tip the coins from thier change for a 30.00 dollar meal. Personally I find that embarressing and leave extra. Can't figure out how to leave thier housekeeping tip though.

We used the mousekeeping envelopes last year, they are so cute and were fun to use!

I usually leave $1 per person per day- the few times we've run into our housekeeper they have always mentioned it and thanked us for the tips.

What's incentive pay?

I've never heard of it. I've also never heard of a maid going home early and gettting paid for it. I don't know about Disney, but in a lot of places maids are worked part time, just at not quite enough hours for fulltime benefits (such as health care).

So let's see, a single mom with 2 kids working 30 hours a week for $12 per hour (and hoping to work her way up to that $12.54 some day - a girl's gotta dream!)...wow, that's a wopping $360 a week! Woohoo - save your tip money folks, that's ROLLING in the dough! :woohoo:

We have never tipped maids and probably never will. Th eonly people we tip are wait staff and bellhops/skycaps.

So basically you only tip people when you're in public and other people can see how generous you are/aren't.
