we are going to be staying with DVC for the first time...should we plan to tip the housecleaning? if so, how much? thanks....:thumbsup2

Omigosh! I thought of this same question just this morning . . . looking forward to getting an answer!

:disrocks:

It's up to you. Some members tip, some don't. Disney does notlist housekeeping as a tipped position.

We do not tip for trash & towel service. We do tip at the end of our stay - usually around $20 (I leave the unit in the same or better condition than we found it except for the bed & bath linens). We also tip if we call housekeeping to bring us something. Others will chime in and of course will do it differently, LOL.

We also tip at the end of our stay but I'm curious about your reference to the list of tipped positions. Where does Disney post this list? It would be handy to know who 'should' be tipped in their eyes.

While we're on the subject (TIPS).....what would be an appropriate tip for Bell Services when you're moving from one resort to another (split stay)? I only ask because on our last trip we changed resorts and we were given an envelope (for the tip) from the front desk, I believe. We were instructed to leave the tip with our luggage when we called for pickup. My DH mentioned that the CM really made a point of explaining about the envelope. I think we left $2 per bag but it seemed like it took an eternity (maybe 5pm) to get our belongings. It could be a coincidence but we thought we got sent to the end of the line b/c we didn't tip well enough! LOL

Tipped positions include Valet parking, bell services, wait staff in restaurants. Not sure if that is all, but that is the majority of them.

We usually tip each time they come - $5 for full cleaning and $3 for trash and towel. So usually about $21 by the end of our vacation.

We usually tip each time because we don't know if the person cleaning the first time will be the one doing it for the whole vacation.

We tip for extra services. If we call and ask for extra towels or blankets, we tip.

We usually leave $5 on trash and towel and $10 on a full cleaning or when we leave. This is for a 1-bedroom. We leave a bit more for larger villas. Do we expect everyone else to do the same? Nope. I think it is all up to you as to what you want to do. We tip for housekeeping at most every hotel we stay at, so we do at WDW too.

It used to be posted on their website but it's been a while and a couple of major website revisions since I've seen it. I can't even find what I know should be there half the time with the latest version. Nationally about 50% of the hotels consider housekeeping tipped and pay accordingly, and about half don't. Otherwise it's your choice.
