Tipping delivery people

When my husband worked at Lowe's it was against policy (not sure if it was store or corporate) to accept tips. Those guys are making above minimum wage (regular delivery drivers make MUCH more). I'd say it's a personal decision and not a requirement.

Pay it forward folks, pay it forward. I'm sad for those of you who are so mean about tipping. What's wrong with tipping? It's a nice thing to do for someone else. My Dad's nickname within our family was Silas Marner-he was a tightwad-but he always tipped the working man because he knew the pay was low and the joy was little. An extra $10 at the end of the day just might mean the difference between eating or not for some of these men, especially those with families. If you can afford it, there's no reason not to. If you can not afford it, a smile and a thanks is great!

Above minimum wage=big deal:worried:! $10 and hour and a 50 hour week is only $24K gross annually. That's about 1400 a month for expenses, average rent being 800-1000(or mortgage) leaves $600 for food, electric, gas, water, fuel, medical, phone, etc. Tipping someone in that income bracket makes sense to me. I would be hard pressed to pay my utilities and feed 3 people on $600 monthly.
Minimum wage is under $8 an hour; the income I've laid out above is at $10 and hour and a 50 hour work week.

I think it is FINE if people want to tip..tip tip away. There are definitely situations that warrant it..for sure. HOWEVER....I just personally feel that there are a lot of places that NOW have tip jars out. It is becoming very common. I feel like my husband and myself are excellent tippers. I tip above and beyond to people who work in the TIPPING industry. Sure there are hard workers out there not making much money....that can go across a lot of professions. TEACHERS work extremely hard...put in longggggg hours and are underpaid. How about law enforcement and the women and men who work at the fire dept.....the list goes on and on. I am sure most people would appreciate a TIP for a job well done... no matter what their position. :scratchin I have personally never tipped a delivery person. They are usually in and out so fast...they seem to be on a mission to get it over and done with. I don't tip the florist who delivers the flowers...because whomever sent them...paid that in their price. I pay it forward in a lot of ways....tipping delivery people....not so much. ;)
