$1-$2 /bag. I round it up to the next $5, particularly if they help me get the bags out of my car. Tip more if you think your luggage is overweight. The skycap is your friend.

I tip $1.00 per bag at curbside. I've never had a skycap help me get bags out of the car, but I agree with Lewisc that I would raise the tip if one ever did so. :D

I always tip $1.50 per bag checked. A little more if it is over-sized or heavy. I feel that this is a small price to pay to avoid standing in line at the counter to check-in. The skycap will also print out your boarding passes(if you don't already have them) and give you your gate assignment. Just remember, he is the person responsible for getting your bags to the plane (Seinfeld had a great episode on this very topic).

The skycap gets your bags to the scanner after that the responsibility falls to the folks at the scanner to get it to the conveyer belt in the correct direction.
We tip between 1.50 and 2.00 per bag.

But its up to the skycap to make sure it is tagged correctly and to make sure it gets to the scanners promptly.

Sky caps are great!

I did, however, have a bad experience with one during our last tip to WDW. The guy chased me down and asked me for a tip! I was in complete shock. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I would have given the guy more, but he ruined it for himself.

For sure and it is up to us to check that he/she has tagged it correctly. The airport code should match the one on our tickets.

did you not tip him in the beginning?

maciec, did you tip when you dropped off the bags? Or didn't tip at all and he chased you down? That was a tacky way to handle that but they do work for tips.

Sorry, I had not tipped him prior to him chasing me down.

I gave him my bags and told him that I would be back in just a second that I had to give my dh who was inside the diaper bag. I went inside to talk to dh and give him the diaper bag and turned around and the guy was right there in my personal space with his hand out. He made some remark along the lines of "Well, I am done working hard for you. Maybe you could give me some appreciation". I kindly told him that I would be back to him in just a minute. He huffed and walked away.

I have never encountered that kind of situation before and it totally turned me off and totally threw me. I have been stiffed before and I know the feeling. I would never do that to someone else (not that he should know that). I was totally nice to the guy too. There was no reason not to be.

First, I have to add that I had 1 large rolling suitcase and 1 medium rolling suitcase. There were 2 adults and a 3yo in my party.

Second, I have no problem tipping people because I have been in their shoes. Not as a sky cap, but as a waitress.

Third, I know that they are busy people, but geez give me a minute.

I did tip the guy $5 after I was done giving over the diaper bag and getting dh and dd settled. Not because he chased me down, but because he did his job and I was thankful for that. He made my life easier.

You were very generous with the tip. Lots of people do stiff the sky caps and he probably had had enough of that and you were the unfortunate target of his ire that day.
