Tipping at WDW

I'm just curious what everyone else generally tips at WDW for different things. My family has a mandatory 18% on dining b/c there's 7 of us, so that's easy. What do you tip mousekeeping daily? How about at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? We've never done the boutique before, and we are going with the Castle package, which is over $200 per girl. We have four princesses who are saving their money to do this. I will pay the tips though, if they are necessary????....

I used to be a housekeeper so tipping the housekeeper is a must.I usually tip a couple dollars a day then a larger tip at the end of my stay. I have been known to tip well if I am given good service, I once at tonys town square tipped 1.00 because she brought my food and drink and never not once returned. I also left her a bad report on the survey they was handing out. I know the staff is busy, but we walk around for hours and at a meal we may drink more than one drink.

OK! Thanx for replying! I tipped a couple of dollars a day last time, and then the last day I tipped more! Guess I did the right thing then! My husband and I usually tip really well. With Disney, the cost of the food is really jacked up high, so we only went a little higher and paid the 18% even though it was just he and I. My parents paid the kids' tips. This time we are footing the entire bill, so we will pay the 18% again. What kills me is that the cost of my tips are the cost of a whole meal for our family of 7 at home! Oh well! At least I don't have to pay the whole bill!

There's a tipping thread somewhere on this board that I've come across. As far as mousekeeping tipping, several people suggested $1/person, plus another dollar. I guess that rate would depend somewhat on what level of hotel you are staying in. They also mentioned that they're aren't envelopes for tipping, as officially Disney says no mousekeeping tipping, so you need to put it in a place that's obvious, like on a pillow or the sink. Sometimes having an envelope isn't enough, even if you write on it they may or may not read English. They'd probably rather leave it if they're uncertain whether its for them or not. It sounds like you plan on tipping daily, which was also recommended, as you may or may not have the same person each day who is cleaning your room.

Ok, thank you! I didn't tip at that rate b/c we have 7 people, and we kept our room really neat, and even make our beds daily. However, the tip was taken every day. I left it on the desk with a note. One day I forgot, so the next day I left a double tip and a note stating that if someone else had cleaned the day before, if they could pass the tip on to them. Don't know if they did, but at least I made the effort. I'll probably give a couple extra bucks this time. Plus-this time I will have two rooms! The last time my parents were in one room and covered their tips. Still not quite sure what to do about BBB, but I talked to one mom who may be helping me there. Thanks!

:guilty:ooh I didn't realize that you didn't have the same housekeeper everyday. in the past we only left a mousekeeping tip on the last day. oops!! I will do it right this time, I remember last year we came home every evening to animal towels and funny things with DD's stuffed animals.

Thanks everyone!

I usually see the housekeeper in the halls and have sometimes asked them if they will be doing my room all week, etc. So if they say they are off before i leave, I know to separate the tips. I also tip a dollar a day per person, plus more for extra services.

I usually tip at a set rate no matter where I stay. We have two rooms that are adjoined when we go, so I'm not sure what we'll do this time. I do like the idea of having the envelopes ready to go ahead of time. I usually just threw the cash on a table. Two days I left a note, but the cash was always gone whether I left one or not. We always keep a tidy space, and even make our beds, so the tips I leave are usually sufficient. If I get someone who leaves towel animals every day I will add a little more! We only got it once last time! At first when people said they tipped a dollar a day per person, I thought it sounded like a lot. Then I realized I already tip more than that! I was thinking "$7.00 a day is a lot for an almost perfectly clean room." Then I realized I have two rooms, and I tip more than $7.00 between the two rooms. Duh.

I tipped housekeeping $1/person/day. I printed envelopes from the mouse for less. Instead of cutting around the curves and gluing them to make envelopes, I just cut around the design and glued them to regular envelopes.

I left one envelope in front of the toothbrushes on the sink.

We were staying club level so for the turn down housekeeper, I snipped out Mickey heads and pasted them on the envelopes. I wrote TURN DOWN MOUSEKEEPING on the outside of the envelope. I left $2 each time for that. $1 per bed. I read that some where.

I forgot a couple times to leave the Turn down tip, thinking we'd be back before turn down. After that, I just left the turn down envelope by the clock beside the bed, each day.

Every envelope was gone when we got back after turn down.

I fill my envelopes with about $3/day for the 2 of us. I make out the envelopes before we leave home ...I write "Mousekeeping" on each with brightly colored markers and Disney stickers. They are so colorful and I have my DD fill them with $$ before we leave on vacation. We put 1 out on our pillows every morning !:flower3:

I just printed my envelopes today off of Mouse for Less! I am all ready to fill them, and my trip is still 4 months out! Also printed my gratuity envelopes for my ADR's! So cute!

You should check the creative disign thread here on the dis board, they have extremely cute mousekeeping and tip envelopes.

even though its not much, using $2 bills to tip can make someone smile :goodvibes

:goodvibes Getting $2 bills for tipping is a part of our Disney tradition. I HAVE to get those $2 bills.

My mom works at a bank, so I might have to do that!

I did check them out! I got Jordak to do a shirt design for me! Thanx for the tip though!

Can't imagine someone not smiling at Disney, but I guess I will have to do my part in making that happen!

Thanx guys!

We also left mouse-keeping tips every day and a larger tip at the end of our stay. Love the idea of the mouse-keeping envelopes.... will check those out for our up-coming trip.

The children were always delighted with the towel animals that the mouse-keeping left on a daily basis. Think the daily tips helped as I have read on several threads that not everyone had these every day. We did, for the whole 14 days that we were there....:cool1:

(We stayed at POR..... and are heading back as we think it is a superb resort....)
