Tipping at DVC for Housekeeping?

I understand there is limited housekeeping service (i.e., trash and tidy on day 4, etc) for my DVC stay. However, since this will be my first time staying at my "second" home, I was wondering what you do as far as tipping is concerned: do you tip more for the day of clean sheets and vacuuming than you do for just the clean towels and tidy? Do you tip at all for the T&T?

And what exactly does a maid do for the "tidy" portion? Are they putting my dishes in the dishwasher, picking up clothes or ??

Finally, if I need more toiletries, can I just ask for them or should I plan to pack all the toiletries I need?

Thanks a lot!

This is what I do. YMMV.

I tip about $4. for T&T day.

I tip $1. - $2. per day, per person for our stay and just leave it all at the end of our stay. So if I stay for 4 days, I'd tip between $16 - $20 for my family of 4.

That is what I do regardless of what others think. To each their own.

On Trash and Towels day, all they do is remove the trash and replace the towels. Nothing else.

We don't tip housekeeping as it is a non-tipped position. If they do something special for us, we would leave a tip.

You can request additional toiletries for a price.

On our T and T day we have been given new toiletries and laundry detergent. I usually tip at WDW resorts but it is hit or miss when we stay DVC.

We tip on trash and towel day if we remember it. We usually leave like $20 or so when we check out. Those rooms are big to clean.

We also tip $5 - $10 on T&T and $20 - $30 on full cleaning and checkout. We have sometimes asked for extra soaps, etc. or extra towels in between. We have never been charged extra. Although tipping mousekeepers is totally voluntary, I believe them to be among the least appreciated of the CMs at WDW and I surely would not want their jobs. We even have a favorite mousekeeper at BWV (Nazarene) who gives us big hugs and lots of extra attention. I make it a point to write a letter to management when I think a mousekeeper has shown particular commitment to excellence. I actually enjoy leaving a tip in hopes that mousekeepers will feel someone does notice their efforts. JMHO.

I think it used to be "trash and tidy" but now it's "trash and towel".

When staying in a 1 bedroom they are supposed to give you another box of Tide, they never seem to. I always have to call and ask for it if I need it.

I usually leave $5 on T & T day and $10 on checkout.

We leave $10 on T&T day and multiply that by the size of the room - 1bed x2, 2bed x3. I think the mousekeepers will do a little extra when a tip is left.

we leave $5 for trash and towel and $20 for a full service.

Glad to hear a lot of folks tip along the same lines I do. I've heard so many DVC'ers say they don't tip at all. If that were the case, we'd never get any of the good housekeepers to stay at DVC. They've got "little houses" to clean -- even if they don't have to do it every day. I'm betting DVC housekeepers are still the hardest working in all of WDW -- I try to show appreciation with good tips.

I understand full cleaning & T/T day. Do they do anything on other days? I thought that we were on our own for everything except for the above:confused3 Please excuse my ignorance...

They do T&T and then depending on how long you stay, they do a full cleaning on the 8th day and they'll be cleaning your room upon check out.

I calulate my tips based on what I'd tip in a regular resort; $1. - $2 per person per day but I just keep it all in one envelope and leave it on my last day or on the 8th day, whichever happens or applies to my stay. I also leave $4 for T&T.

I don't know of anything else they do except maybe if you call them for extra stuff. So yes, you are on your own other than T&T and full cleaning day and check out day.

Got that mixed up. If you stay at least 8 nights, you get a full cleaning on day 4, then trash and towels on day 8. If you stay less than 8 nights, you get trash and towels on day 4.

I tip at (regular resorts) daily because the cleaning staff probably rotates. SO I make sure the person cleaning that day gets the tip. Now.....for the DVC I will probably tip on day 4 and again on departure.

Thanks for all the info on tipping and helping me on the "trash and towel" (not tidy) service.

I'm used to tipping according to service received and I don't see how I can tip the same as I would at a room when I'm getting far less service. Besides, I would think cleaning would be easier for housekeeping if they did it more regularly, esp in "dirty" areas like stoves, showers, toilets.

However, the up side of this is that our room will nearly always be available to us to use...no getting back early from the parks and finding you can't get in your room because it is being cleaned!

Thanks! I had a feeling I wasn't remembering it right. I've never stayed long enough to get the full cleaning!

I agree here, something special deserves.
