We have several ADR's which are character buffet meals. Now that tips are not included in the Dining Plan what is the suggested tipping amount?

thanks!

Wow talk about being cut off at the knees, didn't seem like it needed shutting down. sheesh..but thanks! I guess I'll just go ahead and total up what the cost of the meal will be and figure 10%! I want to set aside money just for tips for the trip and then the mousekeeping tips as well...This way we don't get halfway through the trip and realize that we spent all of our tip money on souvies!!

A co worker went to Disney in February. She had the DDP. The suggested tip (which came on the bill) was 18%.

when you get your check at the restaurants, it will have a suggested tip amount and total on the bottom, and these will be based on 18% and 20%.

of course these are just recommendations and you are free to tip however you feel :)

We are a family of 6.. I was told when booking, the gratuity would be automatically added. Is that the tip or extra on top of it?

Yes, it will. Tip is added onto large groups, I think six and up, automatically. 18 percent is the recommended tip so when they add it, they add 18 percent.

Your first responder is low at 10 percent. 10 percent would be a poor tip, but not a brutal one, like 0. 15 - 18 is more in line. Having said that, I'm not condemning you or them, just pointing that out. Choose what you want to tip, the recommended is 18, so the server will be satisfied probably with 10, as all servers are satisfied with something, but they will not think it was a decent tip.

I'm not turning it into a debate, let me reiterate that. Pick whatever you feel justified in, 0 if you want.

I think the point here is that for a buffet the service by it's nature is less than a standard table service meal so why should the tipbe at the same level.

You will definately get various oppinions on this topic, but I am in the 10% for buffets, but if the server went above and beyond in a big way then I goto the 15% level if the budget allows.

Hope you have a great trip and tasty food!

If you truly find the service to be less at a buffet then of course you should tip in the 10-15% range. If you find that your server is actually at your table more(keeping the table clear and drinks full, offering coffee when you head for dessert ect) than your server(not food runners or busboys) at a table service then you really should tip in the 15-20% range. As was noted by the party of 6 and the info on the receipt Disney does consider 18% the average tip even at buffets

As with anything in this "arena" tip what you are comfortable with based on the quality of the service provided by the subminimum wage person taking care of you.
