Hi,

Curious about people's tipping habits in the area and what levels people seem to be ok with/appreciate.

Normally here is how I tip for good service anyway:

Transportation - generally $10 bill each way to / from airport, even if tip is included in rate. Cab would be 20% as well.

Hotel Room Cleaners - $2 a day

Restaurant Service - 20% before tax

I carry my luggage to my room so I don't bother with bellboy type service. The only one I am not sure about is the room cleaning service, is this too little for a good neighbor hotel?

Sounds good. I usually base housekeeping on our number. We tend to do $1 per person. And depending on how the room looks, we go higher. Generally $2-5 is good. Other numbers look good.

Just my $0.02....
If tip is included anywhere, I do not tip additional.

Hotel Room: I seldom tip for this, but many do. If so moved, $5.00 is probably better per day.

Restaurant: 20% would be max unless they seriously went above and beyond. Remember, Disney restaurants are very expensive, so a 20% tip can be substantial!

At Surf's Up Breakfast (PPH), gratuity was included in the bill. I haven't been to enough other sit-down places at DLR recently to comment where else this may be true.

I know Goofy's Kitchen charges a hefty gratuity REGARDLESS of party size. Even a single person dining alone has a mandatory tip added to the bill.

This does vary person to person, but a 20% tip is my somewhat new normal. I do go 25% at more upscale restaurants (Napa Rose, Carthay, Club 33, 1901.) And if I am in the lounge somewhere, and take space, while eating minimum food and drinks, if they keep checking on me, I have been known to tip considerably more. For instance, this weekend there were several of us (6) sitting in a lounge having drinks, 2 had "drinks", while 4 had water. We were there 2 hours, and the server made sure all drinks were refilled. While our bill was only $8, we tipped an additional $15 simply because of the service.

This. Although I normally do not tip hotel cleaners, on our recent stay at DLH I decided to tip $2 per day. I am not sure if I was being extra picky because I tipped this time but I found everyday there were things that were missed. DLH is a very nice, pricey hotel so I expect high standards of cleanliness regardless of tip. On the 5th and 6th days I stopped tipping.

I have found that tipping in NA hotels is certainly not like tipping at an all inclusive resort where you get something out of it beyond the usual clean up (e.g. a towel swan), but I do notice that sometimes the beds are made just a little nicer and consistent refills of amenities. For me its more of a "sorry you had to deal with all my crap" tip. I think on our next trip I'll up it to $5 a night, if I bring the $ in advance it's easier to tip them.

For restaurants, I will tip higher for amazing service and attentiveness.

I did find it funny that Goofy's kitchen (a buffet of all places) includes a rather nice tip up front before you even take a seat. But, at least they really did have good service with plate removal, drink service, buffet food replacement and so on. Still weird to pay a 18% gratuity before you even sit down though...

I always tip the housekeeping employees that service my room. I stop by their cart and give them a couple of bucks if it's just me or four to five if it's me and my husband.

We don't tip much in England, so it's a shock to realise that our $200 free card in our package will get taken up in 20% tips in our 'free' DDP! We only tip 10% and then only for good food and good service. We don't tip hotels, when I worked as a housekeeper the only tip I ever had was from an American. Taxis usually you make up the fare to the next pound.
