this is just a tip that i have regarding virgin car insurance.if you are planning on having fully inclusive car insurance with your virgin hire car which on checking the on line prices today is £154 per week. if you upgrade to platinum insurance at £161 per week this will include a full tank of petral.if you are going for two weeks [which lets face it most Brits do ] you only pay £14 more.plus if you are a frequant virgin you will get the discount.this is cheaper than paying for a full tank of petrol at the dollar desk when you arrive in florida to collect your car. hope this tip helps.

We have taken the platinum package when we go for 3 weeks in june. You also get the free hire of a car seat too for anyone with small children.

We had full insurance with Virgin but as I've posted on Day 1 of my trip report ...

However, it’s not all good news. Dollar have a nice little scam going on that I will be complaining about. They charged me for a full tank of fuel and told me to bring the car back empty with a warning that I wouldn’t be credited for any fuel left in the tank. There was no choice in this and I was charged $55.17 for fuel they had placed in the tank at a rate of $2.59 a gallon. It’s very annoying to then drive around Orlando and find fuel prices ranging from $1.80 - $2.00 a gallon. It’s very difficult to take the car back empty, no one wants to run the risk of running out of petrol so when Dollar get the cars back, they’re laughing as they just top up the tanks (I bet rather cheaply) then charge the next customer $2.59 a gallon!

I had to pay for the fuel, I couldn't get the car without doing so even though we had the fully comprehensive & inclusive insurance. Maybe the system has changed now but I still think Dollar have a nice little scam going :sad2:

If you check on the virgin website you will see that if you take the platinum insurance package a full tank of petrol is included. last year when we collected our hire car from doller the man at the desk did want to charge us for a full tank of petrol but when i told him we had already paid for it with our insurancehe said ok bring the car back empty and we didn't pay any extras.

Hi this is called prepaying for your petrol. You can ask for it not to be prepaid and you will be asked to bring it back full. If it is not full then you will be charged $4.99 per gallon. We have always in the past paid before hand thinking we had no choice, well this year we refused and filled up the car before going to the airport. However we don't use Virgin insurance, to expensive, we use the annual Natwest car insurance policy. It is only £99 for the year if you do not have a Natwest credit car or £75 if you do.
