Tip for those getting travel insurance from Canada..

Make sure you understand the credit card insurance policies - they sometimes aren't as good as they seem - lots of fine print and hard to understand! I would never depend on it for complete insurance, especially cancellation and interrpution insurance. One thing they do not cover is weather related cancellations - flights cancelled due to snowstorm, etc.

I saw today that PC has TRAVEL INSURANCE TO GO for $96 for a 15-day trip for a family.... any good??

I've used PC before and had to make a claim last fall. Called the 1-800 number and 2 hours later there was a doctor at the door of our hotel room. Had to sign one paper and the entire thing was covered.

I believe RBC is the best travel medical insurance out there for Canadians. Luckily that's what my credit card uses for coverage.

One other thing to add - we also use the free car insurance when renting cars in the US... but it doesn't cover 3rd party liability - something that can cripple you financially for the rest of your life in the miniscule chance they you get in an accident that injures someone. It's expensive but I believe well worth the cost for piece of mind.

We have credit card insurance, but I also purchase from TD each year - it covers anything our family may need - including non-medical cancellation, and a max value for bags. Between the 2 insurances we're covered for anything.

we're a family of 5 and it's $116/year - if we had 2 more children, it'd still be $116/year. It covers everyone in the family for a flat fee.

Can't believe how insurance companies prays on unsuspecting travelers, offering "convenient" rates at time of trip booking. I'm paying $52 PER YEAR unlimited travel, 45 days per trip coverage for whole family (semi-private room, ambulance, doctor fees, medical supplies, prescription drugs up to $1 million per year, repatriation, legal referrals, lost documents and ticket replacement etc.). That sounds like much cheaper coverage than anything on booking sites.

Better look for yearly deals, than for time of travel "specials".
