I just posted this as a reply to another thread, but thought it is helpful enough to make it's own thread.

I hate big drops on rides, but I love coasters so much that I just endure them. I do have a tip, I swear this works. When you start to go down a big drop, put your chin all the way down so it touches your chest (or as low as you can get it). I don't know why, but you don't feel the drop when you do this! I've tried it on drops that make the one on Splash look like a bunny hop, and I hardly feel the drop at all. Your ride picture looks funny, though! :)

I employ this trick on Splash Mtn. all the time on the big drop. The little ones I like, it's just the big long ones I hate. I'm so glad I went on Splash, though, it's a fantastic ride!

I recomend that all who hate big drops who haven't ridden Splash because of it try this technique!

Thanks for the tip. I HATE drops also! A friend is making me go on Splash Mountain for the first time in December. I will definately have to remember this! :jester: :smooth: ::yes::

My 5 year old niece wants me to ride Splash Mountain with her next week. I've always avoided SM because of the drop, but I'll try this!

A lowered chin would look comical on the ride photo. But its better than what I do. I pull my t-shirt up over my face to keep my glasses dry. I apologize to anyone who's photo I've ruined.

Do you pull your T-shirt up from the bottom over your head or from the neck so just your face is coved. I'm thinking if you pulled from the bottom over... they might make for some great souvenirs.:p

I guess then it would be called FLASH Mountain :rotfl:

I slide way down in the seat, and shove my knees up under the front and push really hard against the back of the seat. I've actually got one picture with my hands sorta in the air. Splash is my least favorite attraction but we have to do it since my dd says it's a tradition. I think I have it almost conquered!!!

SPLASH Mt- I just rode splash Mt last year for the first time after going to WDW for 5 years, was not that bad. Also I rode tower of terror for first time in same day. I will ride Splash Mt on next trip, will think about T of T??? If you don;t try you don;t know..... 43 days left for us- 10 days at WDW-POP.........

Thanks for the tip! I can ride Space Mountain with no problem because there aren't any big dips! We are going back to WDW in December. I want to try to ride Tower of Terror and the Aerosmith Rock and Roll-a-coaster too! My daughter, who is 5, will ride anything she's tall enough to ride on!!!! Makes me look and feel a little foolish when I won't get on a ride! Thanks again!

I'm the biggest coward there is. I rode Thunder Mountain and came off feeling very bad. Can't ride the roller coasters, the thought makes my stomach jump! I can just about manage Pirates! However being the wimp is handy, because I become the packhorse, with bags and sweaters etc! Maybe I'll try this tip on Splash, woe betide if it doesn't work!!

How did you ever figure out the "chin to chest" thing?! I will try it on our next trip, sadly which is probably a year away. :(

Here's another tip!

If you want to purchase a photo, but you get to the line, and the photo is unavailable, just let the attendant know that you intended to purchase the photo, and they'll take you to the front of the line! :)

I start screaming soon as it tops the hill until we hit the bottom. It helps me!!:scared1:

i've always told my kids, when they first started to ride (not always by choice, lol), 'shut your eyes, open your mouth and hold on!'

they both ride pretty well now-15 yr old dd will ride more than i will even! 5 yr old son did tot on last trip, but is 'thinking about it' for the next trip!

thanks for the tip, i'll need it myself soon!

LOL! Thanks, Chicago! I've been absolutely dreading a trip to six flags tomorrow because of this very problem. I love spinning, shooting out from 0-60 in three seconds, dropping straight down on ToT, but steep-drop-over-the-hill coasters get me every time.

I'm a big fan of screaming, too--but I'm always the one screaming along at the top of the hill, before the ride ever gets over the hump. What other way is there to breathe? ;)

Too funny - I will have to try this. I also just HATE big drops. I will absolutely try this one if I can.

Usually on splash I tell my family that I become ONE with the seat. I am so scrunched down you really cannot even see me in the photo. One time my family and friends begged me to keep my head up so that we could get a group photo.

I barely managed - but I had to keep my eyes closed! Told them that was the best I could do - no hands in the air for me.

Thanks for the tip.

I definately pull my shirt up from the neckline NOT THE BOTTOM! Your response made me LOL and made me think a little about how I describe things. Thanks for the laugh.

Someone else told me about this. I don't remember who, though. But it works even on the steapest drops on the biggest coasters. It really works well on Splash, since it isn't so steap. It's such a wonderfull ride, that it's a shame that those with "drop fears" can't go on it. I thought this would help!

For those who haven't been on it before, there are more drops than just the big one you see from the walkway, so be prepared. None are as big, though!
