Day 25 – Chef Mickey Breakfast and Vero Beach

I woke up at around half 7 and made some coffee for DH & I. We let the kids sleep until just after 8am and then woke them. DH loaded the car while they got ready and we were waving goodbye to OKW at just after 9am. We were about 5 minutes down the road when I remembered our passports and documents locked safely away in the safe back in the room  . Around we turned and headed back with a few choice words from DH. House keeping was already in the room but I explained what I wanted and retrieved our stuff. Luckily we weren’t half way to Vero when I remembered.

We made it to the Contemporary by our ADR time of half 9 and didn’t wait too long to be seated. We looked at the lovely view while we were waiting.

DS went and got some bacon but I noticed that he wasn’t eating it and was very quiet. I asked him what was wrong and he couldn’t say but we went to the restroom for a quiet chat and he said that he had a pain in his tummy, which was either hunger or he was anxious. He said he didn’t feel like eating but I told him to have a banana and if it was hunger the pain would go. He ate the banana although it was hard going for him and still had the pain. As I suspected he was worrying about the move to Vero as it was change and people with autism don’t cope well with new things. I suppose I am lucky that he was able to tell me what was wrong as in a younger child or one less vocal this anxiousness often manifests itself in tantrums. We didn’t linger over breakfast as we wanted to get going for DS’s sake but we did get a photo with Minnie and did a spot of napkin waving

I only had 2 table service credits left so we paid for the kids meal separately. We also had 9 snack credits and 4 counter service credits to use so we went into the shop at the Contemporary and “spent” them there on drinks, sweets and crisps (or should I say chips)

We went back to the car and started the journey to Vero. I put on a DVD for the kids and this was a godsend as it made the journey go quickly for them and took DS’s mind off the trip.

We took the 192 and once we left St Cloud all human life ceased. We saw, fields, trees, cows and some more fields, trees and no more cows and trucks.

I don’t think I’d fancy breaking down here.

We did see some nice clouds though – what do you think this once looks like?

We stopped at Melbourne – the first real sign of life since Orlando to get a phone charger for me and while DH did that the kids had McDonalds and DS ate some chicken strips. Note – you might remember that DH bought a phone charger on a previous shopping trip – well it didn’t work so he had to buy another one. Fed and watered carried on with our journey via the A1 and got to Vero about half 1. Our room wasn’t ready but the CM told us which building it was in and we parked the car there. (luckily Vero has underground parking which keeps the car cool) I sent the kids and DH off into the ocean while I had a coffee and chilled in the main building. I asked at half 2 and the room was ready so I took some of our stuff up and got changed and joined the rest of the gang in the ocean.

Wow it was fantastic - I just love the whole experience of the sand, the sea, the waves and even the noise they make as the crash into the shore. We spent about an hour there before dragging the kids back to the pool. As soon as we got there they were off and while DH and were chatting I spotted a bronzed Adonis in the pool surrounded by adoring women that going by the descriptions of himself in his trip reports, must have been Craig. (Mkingdon) oh hang on a minute no that wasn’t him, it was the bloke to the left of him with two kids trying to drown him that was Craig. I was still tempted to speak to the Adonis but instead said hi to Craig and the girls who were playing happily in the pool. DS and DD swam over and we all introduced ourselves. DD hit it off with Craig’s girls right away and probably drove them mad for the rest of the trip.

We all spent our time between the pool and the ocean finishing, for us, with the ocean. DS and I also played table tennis and I don’t think he will be expecting a call from the Chinese ping pong team anytime soon as his playing and scoring skills left a lot to be desired. Both sets of kids, Craig’s DW and I headed off to the ocean where we spent some time chatting and admiring the two life guards who were performing spectacular stunts on the wave riders :beach: .

The kids happily played in the ocean, DS was doing a great impression of a builder as he couldn’t quite keep his shorts pulled up and was giving everyone a great view of his bum. It was getting on for about half 6 and I could see DD’s face looking a bit red so I tried to get them in off the beach. I eventually managed and we went back to the room to wash half the beach out of our swimming costumes.

We got dressed again and headed out to Publix where I got chicken for the kids and some basic supplies. DH and I got a subway, which we ate when we got back to the room. We all fell into bed exhausted at around 9pm. It was great to meet Craig, Louise and family and I can report that they are all really nice people although what they though of us is another story.

Tomorrow - Vero and more Ocean.

Sounds like a wonderful afternoon
