One of the silent stars of the silver screen is to talk for the very first time - as the voice of the Speaking Clock.
For years the famous fairy Tinker Bell has not uttered a word, her voice conveyed only by a jingle.
But now the Disney character's dulcet tones will take over the BT service from 1am on Sunday, the end of British Summer Time.
For three months, all callers to 123 will learn the time from the fairy, with bells replacing the usual time pips.
The character originated in JM Barrie's 1904 play, which he developed into his classic children's novel, and on which Disney based its 1953 animation Peter Pan.
Actress Mae Whitman will voice Tinker Bell for the BT Speaking Clock, as well as for the fairy's first speaking part in a film of the same name out on November 10.
Brad Raymond, who directed the forthcoming Tinker Bell movie, said of the character: "She is a natural choice for such an important job given her very British heritage, and who better to officially usher in a new season, than Disney's most famous fairy with amazing tinkering talents."
