In my head I am a marathon runner. In reality I am on the couch. Ok, ok, so I am no longer on the couch, but I am also a long way away from identifying as a long distance runner.
You see, in December 2012 I decided to turn my dream into a reality. My sister really is a marathon runner, and my DW has been telling her she was going to do a couch to the 5k program for a long time now. Well, I got tired of hearing DSis ask, are you off the couch yet? So I decided to take matters in my own hands and began searching for a C25k app for my iPhone. I found one and two weeks before Christmas, I went out for W1D1. And it was fun! So two days later I did W1D2. And it was still fun! By W2D1, DW took notice and announced she was going to come along too (mission accomplished). She didn't think it was as much fun, but I put a safety net into my plan and signed us both up for a few 5ks in April. I figured that would be enough time to train and account for lapses in the program. She thinks I'm crazy
.
Ok, so as I am fully immersed in my new passion, I get it in my head that when we go to WDW this summer, I am going to keep up with my running and I began to actually become excited to run at the BC and Poly (we are doing a split stay). Next I began to search running at WDW. Now I have always known there was a WDW Marathon, as that is pretty much common knowledge. What I didn't know, however, was that there was this whole RunDisney world out there!! Imagine my absolute joy when I realized I could not only run during my vacation at WDW, but I could actually plan a trip around a race!
I first learned of the Princess 1/2. Ok, I've never been a princess kind of girl, but it's a half and it's at Disney, so I can suck it up. But then I heard about the F&W 1/2, and THAT is right up my alley! WS at Epcot is my absolute favorite place and for years I have tried to justify a F&W festival trip. Being that we always go in August and the kids are back in school, I have never been able to make it. But if there is a race involved....well, who could argue with doing something for your health and well-being??
Then I learned that there is a TINK 1/2!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Tink. She is my absolute all time favorite. Forget princesses, I was going to run the Tink 1/2. Oh, wait, the Tink 1/2 is in DL. Well, I have never been to DL, and it's Tink. And there's this thing called the C2C. And if I am setting my sights about as high as they can go right now, why not go for broke and do it all!
So while I thought I might be able to push it and run the F&W 1/2 in 2013, I think it might make more sense in terms of training (both in body and wallet) to do both of these in 2014. I sat with this perfect plan in my head, waiting for the right moment to drop the bomb on my DW (who will be dragged along) and my three DS (who most likely won't be coming - another first) and that happened just the other day. And you know what, they were excited for me!!!
So here I am. This is my second PTR. although my first one isn't even finished yet, but I will have so much to plan in this one, including: my training progress
learning everything I need to know about DL, and planning two trips over the span of the year.
I am currently on W8D3 of the program and am transitioning into longer distances/times using Jeff Galloway's walk run method.
Wish me luck!
