Timing of Transfers

Just trying to figure something out. We are tentatively planning a large family group going in June/July 2009. We would need 3 2 bedroom villas. I am thinking about trying to get points transferred into my account to cover these and have everyone using the other 2 units pay the going price for those transferred in points. I have enough points with banking and borrowing to cover my family. We have 100 points HHI with March use year. For a late June/Early July vacation I could make the ressies late November or early December 2008.

So when would be the best time to try to get a 600 point or so transfer and would use year/resort of those points matter?

Should I try to get someones March 2008 points and bank them into 2009 ?

Can I bank more points than I own?

Would I do better getting a transfer of the resort I want with something like June UY and maybe get the 11 month advantage?

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated as I have myself confused when I need to really get going on this, the best way, and when I have to start getting committments from my 2 brothers families.

I have also thought about just booking our stuff and let them handle their own details, but I don't think they would do the whole rental thing so they would probably do their details through CRO at a much higher cost.

Here are some rules to remember in relaton to a transfer: you can only transfer in or out once per UY and transferred points can be banked but not borrowed.

Also, transferred points are supposed to retain the home resort and UY of the original owner. So, if the points are 2007 BCV points with an Aug UY, they can be used for reservations from Aug 2008 to July 2009 or banked to use for reservations from Aug 2009 to July 2010. They can be used for the home resort booking advantage at BCV and at no other resort.

So, for a June/July 2010 reservation, you will need to receive a transfer of points from an Aug 08 - Dec 08 UY, any 09 UY and/or a Feb 10 - June 10 UY. You can get these in up to 3 transfer, 1 from 08 UY, 1 from 09 UY and 1 from 10 UY. You would have the most flexibility if you can get a transfer from a UY where the points will be current UY points in June/July 10, so Aug 09 - June 10.

You are in your 07 UY, so you can currently receive 07 (which doesn't help) and 08 UY points. You may also already be able to receive 09 UY points as well, but you would need to ask MS.

As to home resort, if you can get home resort points for the resort at which you want to stay, you can take advantage of the 11 month booking window.

How soon to get the points depends on how soon your plans are set in stone. If you already have the cash from the other family members, you could go ahead and see if you can find points now. If you don't have the cash, think about your level of comfort with a nonrfundable transfer for which you may never collect payment from your family members.

Again, you have the most flexibility if you shop for transfer deals at a time when you can receive both 08 and 09 UY points, so that you can piece 2 transfers together if needed. That might be now and would certianly be after Mar 08.
