Timeshares?

I've heard a little bit about timeshares and that you can rent from owners. Where would I find information on how to rent a timeshare for a week?

Common places to find timeshare owners include TUG (www.tug2.net) and Redweek (www.redweek.com)

Those are both good places to look. Some people list timeshares on eBay too. If you want to stay onsite, you could rent points from a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) member on the Rent/Trade board and stay at a Disney timeshare.

We have had great luck with www.vacationtimesharerentals.com. Depending on the time of year you can get really great rentals.

There's usually plenty available at www.tug2.net 's Marketplace and www.RedWeek.com and sometimes at www.TimeshareForums.com

Don't forget that if you see what you want but it's priced higher than comparable listings, you can always make a reasonable offer.

The process of renting is pretty easy. Most owners accept Paypal. You may ask for a signed contract agreement if you don't know anything about them and/or references and/or choose someone whose reputation you respect from this or other forums.

Ask if there are any additional fees to anticipate from the resort at check-in.

Ask if they will send you some verification of the reservation in their own name to show they have the reservation secured before you make payment.

Ask how you will become informed that the resort is expecting you (you phone the home resort to confirm they've been notified vs. the owner having the resort company issue you a Guest Certificate).

Keep in mind that most owners who rent out their timeshare time would be unable to re-rent it if you try to cancel within 60 days of check-in so it's usually non-refundable after that time.

There is obviously some trust involved but the savings can be substantial. HTH!

for DVC do not recommend renting an entire week.

try to rent only Sun-thurs nights (leaving on Fri morning) that is much cheaper than renting an entire week.
