Time to remove Indy speedway

We were there last week and rode it a few times. The ride vehicles are in serious need of a paint job. They are filthy and chipped. Some of the features in the ride that are supposed to move (the red robot's arms in the first room) do not move. The guns don't seem to fire as accurately or as often as they once did.
Well that is disappointing to hear!

I always think about the poor CM's that have to work there and smell the fumes all day. I am not a rocket scientist but my gut tells me it can't be healthy to be breathing that toxic air.

It used to have a longer track before the back corner was developed into Birthdayland/Starland/Toontown. I would say maybe a third of the track was removed at that time. I rode it before and after the change and it does feel much shorter.

I'm not really a fan but the first year we went both grandkids were a little too short to drive so I drove with one and dd drove with the other.
The next year tho they both had a growth spurt and were both celebrating their birthdays and my granddaughter ran up to the height measurer and was so excited she was tall enough and was happily screaming to her cousin that they could ride. The CM saw their birthday pins and took them straight to two separate cars and put a big birthday placard on the back of their cars.
This year I'll have 3 of my other grandsons that have never been and I'm sure they are gonna want to ride too.

I heard the Speedway CM's get "hazard pay" so they get a tiny bit more $ than a typical attraction.

I've only read one page of this and decided to stop. Talk about tunnel vision.
To replace it with something better.

Is it really "incredibly" popular? Nobody I know talks about it in the same breath as rides like PoC, Haunted Mansion, or Space Mountain....
Of course you haven't, it isn't for adults, it is for kids that enjoy the heck out of it and it allows a parent to ride as well. Remember that family thing that Walt was so up about? It was never meant to be high tech, it was meant for kids to actually be able to drive around a course in a vehicle that is just a part of what their future will be (for those whose next argument is about why it is in Tomorrowland).

Second point... never, never, never, never ask to have something removed. Ask instead that new stuff be built and added to the parks. There is plenty of room to add other things without losing something that kids love. The simple solution to not liking something is to just simply walk past it.

Think of the carbon emissions!
OK, if you promise to think of the carbon emissions that you spewed in the atmosphere to just get to WDW. Planes, trains, buses and automobiles, comparatively, emit more junk per minute then that place does all day. So if that is a big concern then I can only hope that you walk from home to Disney, otherwise, it is a bogus concern.

Just because it's in open air, doesn't mean the fumes that the CM's breath in all day are not harmful. There was a train derailment with some chemical a few weeks ago, the fumes were in the "open air" and they still told everyone to stay in their houses and don't turn on the a/c. It doesn't matter if it's open air.

We are in disney now. I agree with the poster who.said adults(some, not all) hate it. But the kids love it. The line for the darn thing is ridiculous. That is the one ride my ds really wants to go on. But we would be there forever. He loves it thought. It's just one of those rides. Now my ds loves the people mover!!! We went on it four times last night. I think it's because it has some zip. He is scared off coasters, so this is more his speed. He thought the dark part was cool and it helped him work his courage up to ride 7dmt tomorrow. I really hope they don't get rid of anything. They can update and repaint if they want.

I agree about buzz. We were disappointed. I had no idea if I was hitting targets... I couldn't tell where the laser was. At times I think mine want even working.

DS11 absolutely LOVES the speedway. He would gladly stand on line 40 minutes to ride it, and will gladly ride it over, and over if we let him. It is one of the rides he MOST wants to go back on, and especially when we are there for evening EMH when the line tends to be shorter. I don't love it myself, but I DO love how happy it makes my DS, and I would be willing to bet that a lot of parents feel the same way.

Upgrading wouldn't be a bad idea but unless someone can come up with an attraction that eats up as many guests as Speedway does it has to stay. It helps keep crowds down elsewhere just on the sheer numbers on and waiting for the ride at any given time.

That said, just watching it for a few minutes and seeing the kids (even many "older" kids ) riding it smiling and laughing you can see how popular it is. I wouldn't get rid of a ride like that though I might update it.

Oh well we always like it. It is quite popular still, lines are long

I like it for the nostalgia and have to take at least one spin on it per trip. I do not like the smell though.
Retheme it to Sugar Rush Racers and we're good to go!

The Indy Speedway is loud, smells bad, and you're right, doesn't look like it belongs in the Magic Kingdom. When I first went on it I was pretty annoyed, because I thought it was the stupidest and slowest ride I had ever been on.

But it isn't meant to be fast or anything like that. What I remember from riding on it is being a terrible driver, being the slowest one on the track, and steering terribly. I remember laughing like crazy because I could not get that stupid car under control. And that's why the Indy Speedway is there. The wait times are always crazy and it's doubtful it'll be removed anytime in the near future.

I like it now at 40 years old (do I wish it was faster? yes). I drove it 30 years ago and loved it. DD loved it from 5-13 years old (she loved the little licenses they gave out). I will not wait for it but if were walking by shortly after rope drop and there's no line we will hop on just for fun.

Kids and tweens LOVE it.

Yes, they do! My little Princesses have been watching youtube videos of MK attractions and this one popped up. This is all they talk about! Yes, I will stand in that line and pop thiem in. My husband did the same with my DGD for her first several trips. He rode that thing as often as she pleased...and she pleased a lot! LOL!!

I don't think every attraction has to be based on a movie. Many of the best attractions came before the movies (Haunted Mansion, Pirates). While this isn't my favorite, my kids love it. I wouldn't be in favor of removing it even with the noise and the fumes.

I agree. This attraction is not my personal favorite, and I am not looking forward to it in August, but I get how kids love it. I would love to see it updated, but would not ask to have it removed.

Until he was finally tall and brave enough to do space mountain, speedway was my nephews absolute favorite ride. (It's still a close second) he will wait in a line of any length, burning sun or freezing cold, just for a chance to steer the "bumpy cars" (his name for them because he's not great at steering and we hit the center guide rail about 7,000 times in our ride)

I think that the OP is what should be removed. They have no clue as to what Disney is all about. Disney is for KiDS not adults.

Sorry, but that's not true, and never has been.

Just read a little history of Walt Disney and his intentions for Disneyland and that idea melts away.

----------------------------
Walt Disney quotes:

"You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."
----
I think what I want Disneyland to be most of all is a happy place – a place where adults and children can experience together some of the wonders of life, of adventure, and feel better because of it.
----
"Why do we have to grow up? I know more adults who have the children's approach to life. They're people who don't give a hang what the Joneses do. You see them at Disneyland every time you go there. They are not afraid to be delighted with simple pleasures, and they have a degree of contentment with what life has brought - sometimes it isn't much, either."
