So, I have decided that since we had to put off our trip to Disney (I should be there right now :headache:) that we needed some sort of fairly local getaway to allow us to relax and chill out before our little bundle of joy arrives.

I have heard of the idea of a Babymoon and think that it is exactly what we need. So I am looking for help with finding a location and am wondering if anyone had any thoughts or ideas of perfectly relaxing places.

Most important is the max of 4 hour travel via car (from SE Massachusetts). No planes. Also that I be within a 1 hour drive of a good hospital. I am picturing an Inn or B&B not on a busy road. Something with a wraparound porch with rocking chairs (or lounges) that we can relax on. I would love there to be a lake or something that we can sit by (probably no ocean since we will be traveling towards the end of May and the ocean will still be too cold). A tree we can have a picnic lunch under.

I just want to go, shut out the world and remember why I married this magnificent man and why we have decided to bring another life into our world. :cloud9:

I know this is alot to look for but I though that someone out there might read that and say "Oh! I know the perfect place in Connecticut" (or wherever)...

Some quick thinking on Google found me this place. I've never been to Martha's Vineyard, but I've heard good things. There is also a hospital on the island.

What about Mystic Seaport. My partner and I love to stay there, my partner loves the Foxwood Casino and Mystic is not far from there. I know about 6 or 7 years ago we stayed in a B&B there and it was very nice, but I can't remember the name.

Jenn, this is a terrific idea. Some places I enjoy:

Williamstown Inn in Williamstown MA is lovely, and has everything but the lake you asked for! If you go after Williams College graduation, it is quiet. There is summer theater, first rate, and Clark Art Institute is also tops.
Near by is the modern art museum in North Adams, which also has a hospital. The Berkshire MTs. are all around for the outside adventures too. And Yankee Candle isn't too far away. Should be about 4 hours from you.

Portsmouth NH has the dreaded ocean!:rotfl: but lots to see and explore. A little later and it also has summer theater, outside and free!

Another favorite place is a bit further but Portland Maine has so much, and it is all close together. And Maine Medical is right there. Oh, and the ocean too!

I hope you find the best possible place.

Kathleen

I love Vermont! There are so many parks, mountains, cabins...
Wish I could give you specifics, but both times we have been there we have "winged" it.
Enjoy

Not sure if it's close enough, but Belfast, Maine is a great place to relax, and not do much else but love the view of the sea. (And eat incredible lobster, but that's another thread).

There is a growing art community there, and since it never really was a "touristy" place, it's not overdone.

I would have to say nearly anywhere on the Cape though.

NYC too wild and crazy? I love the city... the village has some great places! Not the best driving conditions though.

Cape May, NJ? Maybe not close enough to a good hospital?

Ummmm... Providence, RI?

Boston too much like "not far enough away?" Loads of wonderful little places there!

The Wilmington White House in Vermont.
Wentworth By The Sea in Portsmouth, NH.
Cliff House Resort and Spa, Ogunquit, ME

I have been to the 1st 2, and they are wonderful. I really really really want to go to the Cliff House, I live in NH for 5 years, did I ever go over there? Heck no! But it looks really nce.

Those look like some fabulous ideas! I will check them out and see what Nelson thinks! Thanks to everyone for all your help. I am never surprised when you guys come through! :lovestruc

I second the vote for Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth. they have the most comfy beds I have ever slept in! Its a beautiful place, and you are right outside downtown Portsmouth for all that great shopping and eateries. or if you just want great ice cream and/or sandwiches, or casual food go to the Ice House on A1A right down the road from the hotel :thumbsup2

My husband will be at Wentworth at the end of the month. We have eaten dinner there but never stayed, I will pass the good bed info along to him, thnaks!
