So this is my story. I'm 5'4" and I weigh 172lbs., I'm overweight. There I said it. I think for the longest time I was just in denial that the scale was broke or I was just having a bad day. But I went to the doctor's and their scale and my scale match :guilty:
Anyway, I've decided that it's time to lose the weight for me, not for my husband(who claims I look the same as when we got married :rotfl:), or to look better in pictures or even to go to Disney again, just me.
As if the weight I'm already carrying around isnt bad enough, when I went to the md's office I found out I have fibroids and it's kinda big and in a bad spot so she's not sure ablation would be a good choice. So, we've decided to try birth control pills and see how that goes. I've never taken the pill in my life, I had my tubes tied after my son. I really hope it's not true that you gain weight while on the pill.
So I really don't have a plan of attack yet. I think to start off with, I'm just going to try and eat right and limit sweets/snacks to the weekends. As for exercise that's a tough one. I was thinking about the WII Fit or Active. It's cold in PA in the winter to be out walking, so I'll have to play that by ear.

I'm not familiar with fibroids? I'd have to google it to understand. But I can tell you that being on the pill will have an effect. I can't recall exactly what, but if I remember (I was on it for many years), it was more like a tendency to retain water than anything else. Be sure and keep up your water intake and also, maybe you should take up body brushing. My mom treated me to a spa date and the tech asked me where I was in my cycle because she could SEE the water retention on me!:eek: She told me about body brushing...

Basically, you have one of those brushes, a bit oval shaped with the hand strap across the wood part, and you will brush your body rather vigorously toward your lymph nodes. So you go UP your legs toward your crotch. You go UP your arms toward your armpits, etc. WHEN I was faithfully doing it, it really made a difference. I've been meaning to get back to it. I highly recommend that you research the concept and spend the few minutes it takes before showering to do it.

The deal with your lymph system is that it has no pump. The movement of your muscles supplies the system with movement, so if the body brushing is just another way of helping the system to work itself.:thumbsup2

Making the choice for yourself is a big deal. When you do realize that you are the only one that can take care of you, and then decide that you are worth taking care of? THEN you can find yourself on the steady path toward a healthier you. Accept that it will take time. Forgive yourself quickly. Rebound quickly. And just keep at it.

Thanks for the advice about body brushing, I will definitely keep that in mind. I don't start the pill until next Sunday. I'll try the pill for 3 months and reevalute after that.

It's my second day on the road to changing my life and things are going good so far. I've not had any major cravings to deal with yet, so that's a good thing. I think I actually feel better not eating all the junky stuff :), who knew? But there's still a long week ahead of me until my next weigh-in.

Official weigh-in the am..lost 3 lbs. :). So I'm on the right track. Yesterday was really hard, seriously needed chips or a cookie or something, but I fought through the craving and feel better this am for not giving in. Hopefully I will be able to maintain my momentum through the 2nd week.

Well, I weathered the snow storm this weekend without blowing my diet :woohoo:. So I'm still on track which is fabulous. 4 hrs of snow shoveling was quite a workout, so I treated myself to a cookie, only 1 and that was fine. Didn't have a craving for anymore. Another round of snow headed my way Tuesday into Wednesday, so hopefully the momentum will continue.
