Time line to cancel a park pass reservation

My friend bought two-day single park tickets for her family of four that have a four day window. They are not attached to a hotel reservation as they are staying offsite. She has booked park pass reservations for Epcot and Magic Kingdom on two of the four days they are eligible to use them. Day one is booked at EP and Day 3 at MK.

She’s wondering if poor weather/significant rain were forecast for one of the days they booked a reservation and they wished to cancel and book for one of the other eligible days how late can they cancel the park reservation without penalty? Before the park opens on day of? Or do they have to do it the day before? 24 hours before?

There's no penalty at all. I think the only admission type with a no-show is the Disneyland Annual Pass (Magic Key).

As pp said, no penalty for not using a park reservation.
You do however, have to worry about no availability for the days you want to swap around.

So even if they don’t cancel it they don’t lose their opportunity to make a new reservation a different day?

Correct, you don't burn an admission entitlement until you click in at the gate.

I had a reservation at Epcot on Saturday and was standing at the bus stop when I decided I wanted a Sleepy Hollow waffle. I switched my park reservation and moved to the MK bus line in about 60 seconds.

But obviously a MK reservation needed to be available.

The issue I had a while back, we have AP and were allowed three reservations. We booked an off-site hotel for Friday - Sunday night. We made the reservations for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My though was after going to the park Saturday, I would get a park reservation for Monday. I had a hotel reserved for half way home Monday, thinking we would head out about dinner time.

I tried after we got into the park Friday, no reservations available. tried again Saturday morning, and Saturday night. Nothing. So Sunday we went to the parks, and went back to the hotel. I cancelled our Monday night room. We went home Monday morning, arriving about 12 hours before we originally planned.
