Tim Tebow

Pretty nasty. The media frenzy is not of his making so why all the hatred...not just from you but from so many.
I take it from the vitriolic post that you know him personally, and he committed some heinous act against you.

Calling him an insufferable tool is vitriolic and nasty? I recommend you not attend sporting events in person. ;)

I'm sorry, but the media frenzy is entirely of his own making. What he does is designed to get attention - what he says is all of his own choosing, and yes, I find him an insufferable tool. Has nothing to do with the media, it's all from his own mouth and his own behaviour.

I don't think he'll play well here, at all. He's more of a joke than anything else, and it's not really one couched in admiration. Witness the SNL skit.

I don't know what happened with him choosing NY or not but if he did... I don't get it. He won't outwardly challenge Sanchez for the spot, and if he doesn't, Sanchez will not care less about Tebow. Neither of them can get the ball where it's supposed to go so... I say again, what is the point of this?!

!

I have my own opinion of Tebow but really, when is a skit on SNL indicative of whether someone is a joke or admired? If it was, every President we have ever had is a complete buffoon. Which might be true though LOL

I think your third sentence answers the second there, heh.

Yes, they satirize everything newsworthy, though politics more than most, however, I meant it more in a general sensibility way. There are people with different ideas about different things everyplace. In great generality, I tend to think he comes off here more as a joke, and the skit tends to be the eye-rolling way he's seen. Obviously, that's not a universal here, obviously, it applies to people elsewhere, etc., etc.

People were irked at the SNL skit, people in this thread have referred to the Jets as crude and not a fit for him... :confused3 I don't think he'll play well here. It was the example that came to mind of my personal general feeling of how the fans will likely tend to see him.

He'll bring his own fans! ;)

Yep...

and they'll be Tebow fans instead of Jets fans.

and they'll push what's best for Tebow instead of what's best for the team.

and you'll see what kind of teammate Tebow is when he does absolutely nothing when his fans start booing sanchez in training camp.

Good luck Jets... it's your circus now.

Yep...

what would you like him to do? he can't control that....it's unfortunate that people do it - rude too.

No, calling him (or anyone) names is just immature. I was referring to your last sentence..."that someone will sack him into next season in a preseason game, because I can't see what good would come of this." Wishing harm to anyone is nasty and vitriolic.
He is not allowed to say what he chooses? I thought that was a guaranteed right afforded all of us. What behavior do you refer to? Kneeling after a touchdown? He's certainly not the first player to do that. Let"s see...he didn't rape or beat his girlfriend, didn't get arrested carrying a gun, didn't break and enter, steal, or get caught up in bar brawls.
As far as him being able to "choose" between teams...I kind of doubt it. When the deal with the Jets was inititially announced, it became a done deal unless there was no agreement as to repayment for certain financial outlays by the Broncos (who, according to reports, didn't present the issue until the trade was announced.) Unlike being released and moving on, being traded usually puts all the power in the hands of team management.

He is allowed to say what he wants, but in turn people are allowed to criticize him for it...freedom of speech goes both ways :thumbsup2

I personally believe Elway when he says that he gave Tebow the option once the trade hit a snag and the Jags came back into the fold....It made sense financially for Tebow to go to NY, given that the Jets are a MAJOR market team that will give him and his agent plenty of opportunities to rake in the dough. I don't hold that against him, that is his job, he should be looking to make more money while he is still young, popular and healthy.

It's the same reason why Manning didn't go "home" to Tennessee, Denver is a mid-market team with a solid core of players, whereas the Titans are a small market team with only a running back. For Peyton it was all about the 96 million and a decent chance to win...For the Jets and Tebow it was all about the $$$$$, again there is nothing wrong with that, it's a business.

Tebow's standing as a role model doesn't really come into play, Football fans typically don't care about that. The majority of us only care what one does on the field, anything that distracts from that is unacceptable whether it be dog fighting, partying or evangelizing. Football fans also get agitated by what we call up here in Boston "Pink Hats" or bandwagon fans that have latched on to Tebow and raised him up on a pedestal while not knowing the difference between a 3-4 or 4-3 Defense. The vitriolic criticism on Tebow is a direct result of his enthusiastic poser fans, it has little to do with him being an Xtian, otherwise guys like Troy Polumalu, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and countless others would experience the same.

I heard on my local radio station yesterday that during the "contract snag" time Tebow was told that he was able to decide between the Jets and St. Louis. ????:confused3??? I had not heard that at all until the radio. Jacksonville was NOT mentioned by our local sports, just Jets and St. Louis. They said he went with the Jets. Has anyone else heard this? I cannot imagine him picking the Jets over Jacksonville so this makes more sense, but I had not heard it until that radio report.

What in the world is an Xtian? :rotfl: Sounds like an alien.

According to everything I have read and heard it was between Jacksonville and the Jets, St Louis had an offer on the table but it didn't match Jacksonville or the Jets so the broncos weren't going to consider St Louis unles the Jets and Jags completely withdrew their offers.

Again Tebow and his agent picked the Jets because it makes business sense and the Broncos traded Tebow because it made Football sense. That isn't a crime, if I was in Tebow's position I'd go with what made business sense because afterall Football is his job, it's all about the money.

Never thought of it that way but it does :lmao:

I am just used to using Xtian as an abbreviation for Christian, it's kind of like Xmas :)

I am used to using the abbreviation while talking about Metal, I refer to Christian Metal Bands or Christian Hardcore as Xtian Metal or XtianCore, it's just a personal preference.

Okay! It makes more sense now. I'm glad you don't dislike Christianity so much you can't write it ;). I like your posts a lot even though we are often on opposite sides of an issue, and I was a little worried there for a minute :goodvibes.

LOL no way.....I may get into discussions (not on the DIS, anymore haha) about all Religions, but I would never be close minded like that.

It's ok to be opposite, respectful discourse is always a good thing, that's how we learn and grow. :goodvibes The world would be a boring place if we all had the same opinions molded by the same wolrd views.

I may not like Tebow as a QB, how he handles himself on the field or even his celebrity persona and that's ok, I still respect him as an athelete and would never wish any harm on him.

Elway, in an interview yesterday, said that Jacksonville actually offered more for Tebow than the Jets did, but it was close enough to give Tebow the choice.

Tebow had a choice between Jets and Jags and he chose the Jets.

btw - there is another snag in the trade with the contract, so as of now, Tebow is still a Bronco. It won't be fixed until Monday, when he officially becomes a Jet.

And this is why I enjoy your posts.

I can't find that interview with Elway saying he graciously gave Tim a choice. But even if Tim did get a choice, he really only had the Jets who wanted him. Those coaches wanted him and I am sure his agent told Tim that. In the end Tim does want to play football. He is not some empty shell of man who just wants attention. I can't imagine how suffocating it is to be him, but he is a competitor and wants to play and win. IF he chose NY it was the best place for him to play. Jax coaches definitely didn't want him but the owner did. I think ultimately Tim would have liked to go home AND play for a set of coaches that wanted him. He just spent his last season with a Coach and a VP who clearly didn't want him and that is after he/with his teammates took them to the playoffs. We know and love Ryan here in Baltimore, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Ryan was smiling that he got Tebow. The coach in Jax would have been gritting his teeth. Plus Ryan and Sparano (former Dolphin coach) both got beat by Tebow (yes him, he ran in the winning touchdown/points) this past season. So for both of them to ask for him says to Tim that he has at the very least earned their respect.

BY the way there is NO WAY Peyton Manning even considers the Broncos if they finished that last season without Tebow. As it is they were 8-8. Peyton went for the money and the control Elway was giving him, and he simply knew that Elway was desperate to get rid of Tim. I hope it works out for all of them. Sanchez is a big boy and he is getting a lot of money to play a game. He already reached out to Tim before the trade was final and they are friends. It will be fine in New York. We were looking forward to seeing Tebow in Baltimore this year, but we will have to face Manning instead. Hope Suggs is ready!

For Tebow Fans it is fun to watch his comebacks on both the Jets and Dolphins considering he is going to play for both coaches.

That is what I have been hearing on TV. The radio reporter said something completely different. I did read that the Jags only offered the 4th round pick but not an additional one like the Jets.
I did read about the new contract issue and that it will not be official until Monday.

As to the first, again, I'd recommend you not attend live sporting events if randomly verbally wishing harm on players bothers you. I'm not criticizing you for it bothering you, I'm just saying. I'm a sports fan, I've heard - and yes, said - much worse, in the 'take him/her out' way. It's a contact sport. I don't actually want people grievously injured or anything, nor would I say like 'I hope someone takes a club to Tiger Woods on the 7th hole,' as golf is NOT a contact sport. Have I suggested someone beat the heck out of Rick DiPietro and would I actually enjoy watching that? Sure; he asks for it, and it's a contact sport. Again, I understand if you find that distasteful, but I don't think it makes me immature or nasty or anything most of the other fans aren't as well.

Of course he can say whatever he likes. I referred to what he says by way of saying that the media frenzy that has surrounded him didn't happen in a vacuum. He's created it, by saying what he does - which is entirely his choice and under his control - and doing what he does. Not just the kneeling, the Bible verses under the eyes, the stuff he says, etc.

I don't know what went on in the room any more than anyone else who wasn't there, obviously, but I don't see any reason to think he *didn't* choose.
