We are driving down to DL and wondering if there is any place you could recommend for a quick soup and sandwich/ wrap place like Tim's. THX

Maybe a Dunkin Dount place? Want to hear about your plan to drive! I've often thought about doing that, but not sure.

We've driven about 10 times and pack our own quick meals and snacks in a cooler. I'm always anxious to be there and don't want to stop. It's never been a problem at the border. The rest stops on I-5 are frequent and, in Washington, offer coffee and cookies by donation. Also, they still had vending machines last time we went. When we did decide to stop for a restaurant, it was usually a Denny's or a chain fast food. We wanted something predictable. If this is your first time driving, be prepared for about 24 - 26 hours on the road. We usually grab a hotel/motel in northern California but have driven straight through on occasion.

Have fun. Let us know if you find a place similar to Tim's.

As of March 30, 2008, there are 399 Tim Hortons locations in the United States. These are primarily situated in (and the areas surrounding) Buffalo, Rochester (New York), Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, Lansing(Michigan), Columbus, Dayton, Toledo (Ohio), Erie (Pennsylvania), Charleston, Huntington, Wheeling (West Virginia), Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

(just as an FYI)

If driving I-77or I-79 & I-95 you will have Sheetz in Pennsylvania,West Verginia, and North Carolina,They have Hot and Cold Subs,Deli Sandwiches, wraps, there web site is Sheetz.com they have a full menu on there.Alos In Pennsylvania there are country fair's if you like strong coffee this is where to go they will also make subs and have good pizza. The Flying J, TA truck stops and the Pilot all have good coffee and most have fast food places in them.

If driving I-75 the last timmys that i know of is in Monroe, OH exit 29 then you will have your dunkin donuts and your truck stops.

Yes there are Tims in the U.S. They're called Cafes and Bake Shops but I didn't mention them because there aren't any on the West Coast of the U.S.

The OP is travelling to DL, not WDW. So it looks like I-5 all the way. But IIRC they should still find Flying J's along the way. We always get a CAA triptic for our road trips. They're great since you'll be able to see which exits have food and gas. But most of the interstates have really good signage about gas stations and food spots near each exit as well.

I love BCAA too but usually pick up a road atlas from a U.S.WalMart as soon as we cross the border. Much better than the Cdn. ones. They show all the rest areas on the highways and have been lifesavers on more than one trip, especially with children.

Reading this thread is bringing back so many good road trip memories. :)

As a person who doesn't drink coffee, meaning never had a cult coffee. You won't find a Tim's on the West Coast. We drive the I15 all the way down.

But I would rather take a "4X4 animal style" at In n Out Burger than a "Double Double"

Although the coffee is different, it is pretty good. We like to stop at Panera Bread anywhere in the US. They have great sandwiches and soups at reasonable prices. Did a quick check on their site, and there are many locations down the left coast.

Couldn't agree more!! LOVE Panera!!!pixiedust:

Panera Bread! :worship: There are a couple of locations in Canada now! We have tried the one at Square One Mall in Mississauga and it is wonderful! We always frequent the Panera Bread in the Loop Mall in Orlando as well when we are down visiting Mickey!

PS Register for the Panera card and you can collect points for free food items! :thumbsup2

As someone that gets a wicked headache if I don't have my afternoon coffee, I usually buy a bottle of caffeine pills at the drug store and take them with us for emergencies when I go to the US. They don't seem to have the same coffee-culture that we do here in Canada and it's not always easy to find a cup of coffee in the afternoon. We just got back from a week in the NY and PA region and twice we were at restaurants that stopped serving coffee after the breakfast rush. I guess I'm odd, I don't need my caffeine fix in the morning, I wake up feeling pretty good. I need a coffee in the afternoon. So that's where the bottle of caffeine pills helps, on the days when I just can't find coffee. BTW, I found it very hard to find an afternoon coffee in WDW, and when I did find it, it was usually overpriced and pretty crappy. So I almost always use the caffeine pills at WDW.

Hi all, hope you don't mind that I read here often as I want to go back to Canada for a trip.

Do you all not like Starbucks or Peets? ( I'm not a fan of those two, just curious as I drink coffee all day long. I can't tell you great spots to hit as I drink anything as long as it doesn't taste like oil).

Lots of Starbucks down I-5. Some of my friends who only drink Starbucks have said McD's coffee is now better and it's served all day. Black Bear Diner is my new favorite, especially their blackberry pie and coffee.
