I have a new Sony HDD camera and want to get a basic software which will allow me to edit, add titles and music. I do not want anything expensive but easy to use. I have used Windows Media Maker and I find I lost a great deal of quality. Any ideas? We are going to the US in a few days and hope to buy something there (yes..it is cheaper than Canada!)
I have a PC and use Windows XP. Thanks!

I use Ulead VideoStudio. I've got an older version but I'm very pleased with it. It does everything I need in a video editing/producing piece of software. I have done a few wedding videos with it.

You should be able to pick up a copy for under $100. You can even download a trial copy on the internet to see if you like it before you visit the states and are looking to buy.

I'm a fan of Sony Vegas. It comes in several different price flavors. This way , if you ever want to move up to something more professional, you can just upgrade. I think the same is true of Adobe Premiere.

Thanks guys. Will look into both softwares!

I like pinnacle studio.. Gave me the fewest problems. Vegas was ok, tried avid liquid, didnt like it, havent tried ulead for a number of years, and the adobe one, demo'd it but didnt like it plus the price was just silly..

I don't really have any overhead shots that help give that "scale model" perspective. But I got this one from the Canada Gardens (is that what they are called?)

and I tried this one from Ellis Island:

I can see problems that I need to work on. Like the purple tree in the garden shot is blurry at the top.

Still fun though. Check out the tutorials in this thread.

and the great efforts by zackiedog and bobQuincy.

Hi All,

I just got a Sony Handycam (DCR-DVD610) for Christmas, so I can record all of the special moments of my children. So far I have figured out how to use the camcorder...

My problem is in choosing the video editing software. I thought I would download the trial version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 before I bought it, and I am so glad I did because I can't figure out how to do anything with it!!

Does anyone use a simple video editing software that produces nice results? I would sure like your opinions and guidance!!

I thought I would be able to figure it out, but I spent sometime with it and was still lost.

I also downloaded the trial version of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements. I was able to make a very short movie as a test and added some audio. I don't think that all of the features are included with the free download.

So if anyone can suggest some easy software to try, I would greatly appreciate it. Our next trip is in September 2009, so I would have some time to learn..

I went against the DVD version of the Sony and bought a mini dv because most said it was easier to edit footage, with that being said I have used the windows movie maker version on most new Vista computers and it works wonderfully....especially for someone just starting. Good Luck.

Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for inexpensive, simple to use video editing software. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles at this point. I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer and for whatever reason it doesn't like my video clips and also likes to freeze up a lot.

Bump for the same question. Is there any freeware or demoware out there that would do some very elementary editing?

I shot a few 20-30 sec clips on my digital camera on the last trip and would like to do some basic editing - maybe paste a few still images in the clip, or stitch several clips together. I have lots of photoediting software, but either don't have any video editing capability or I can't find it. (lots of var. Canon products that came with the cameras- ZoomBrowser etc) Corel Paint shop Pro, Photo Album etc.

Unfortunately this suggestion doesn't look like it will help either of you since you're using Windows but Apple's iMovie is a great simple movie editor.

I use Roxio's Easy Media Creator. I find it easy to use and I get some nice results. The DVDs that I burn are usually combinations of photos, videos, and music. I wouldn't call the software cheap though - unless you watch for it to go on sale and buy it then.

From PC Magazine:

The Best Video-Editing Suite for Non-Pros

I've known for a long time that Adobe Premiere Elements
is-hands down-the best tool for editing, managing and
manipulating videos. Most of my YouTube uploads have
spent some time in Premiere Elements. It has easy-to-use
tools, but also incredible depth. Last year, I did some
crazy stuff with the chroma-key tools. Now PCMag's video
experts have named it our Editors' Choice for mainstream
video editors. Glad we're in agreement.
An Awesome Video Tool

Not necessarily the "best" but it is free and is not too hard to use, Windows Movie Maker. If it is not already on your computer, should already be there, you can download from Microsoft.

Before you purchase any software for editing video make sure it is compatible with your movie format. I have a JVC HDD camcorder and it will only use their software. I tried Elements, and a few other ones and they freeze up. Someone did come up with software to convert from the JVC MOD format to avi or mpeg, but you do lose some quaility. I beleive the newest HDD JVC now use standard mpeg4.
Just a heads up.

Wicked video... I just don't know why they didn't use disney music??!

Couldn't listen to the music as i seem to have misplaced the audio cable that goes from the computer to the monitor's speakers!!! (at work)

Thanks for the post! It was very well done, really enjoyed it. I downloaded it to show someone at work tonight.....like they need another reason to think I'm obsessed with Disney:lmao:

That was GREAT! Thanks for sharing the link
