Tikiman! - Polynesian - Tahiti Rennovations

Aloha everyone!

I have read Tikiman's wonderful thread about the proposed reservations for The Polynesian Resort next year.

We are in the process of making a reservation for the Poly next August in a Lagoon View room (hopefully Tahiti).

What is the chance that Tahiti rehab will be finished by then? What will happen/where will be relocated if the rehab is still undergoing during our trip?

Any information/advice/help appreciated!

Well, other non-concierge buildings have lagoon view. Tuvalu does (if you're in the marina looking at the MK, Tuvalu is on the left at the end of Fiji). Fiji overlooks the marina and probably the lagoon on that side. Perhaps Samoa has lagoon view? Hawaii definately does, but that is the concierge building. I used to know every building and it's view but I forgot.

I hear Tahiti needed this rehab BAD. My cousin stayed there awhile back and said it was horrible!

Actually there was a report from someone who returned last week and they said Tahiti looked great and their room was spotless and smell free. I walked the whole building back in July-August and it looked great to me but to answer your question they schedule for redoing the rooms can change but for now they are going to be done mid August. The good news is that I am told that they are not closing down the building to do the work to the rooms. They will do a few rooms at a time. Now if you are worried about noise I would not be. I have been right next to a room back when they were redoing the rooms before and I never even knew it till one day the door was open and I could see inside and all the work going on. Even now they are doing work on the “secret test rooms” in a building I will not name and no one yet has reported any noise in this building. I am sure they don’t even know. So if you want to request Tahiti you can. The only problem will be the rooms will be limited if they are still working on some of them but maybe you will get one that is done and you will see the new room design. It is going to completely change.

AutumnFae - Thanks for replying. We stayed in a LV room in Tahiti in April and it was perfect. I know that other buildings have LV but I just love Tahiti!

TikiMan - Thank you for your reply! I'm so glad to hear that they will be doing a few rooms at a time. I had a picture of Tahiti completely closed during the rennovation, with one of those big brown fences around it! I know it's perhaps 'sad' but I can't tell you how excited I am to see the new rooms!! I loved the old design, but I think the new design will be even better... I am especially happy about the larger TV's that will be added.

The last thing they told me was that they would not close down the whole building. Lets hope that does not change.

If you do get into a new room you will have to take lots of photos for me. I got some shots of the new designs but I was asked not to post them.

Regarding this new room design of which we may not speak:
Since most of the resort has already undergone recent renovations, it seems they are not necessarily planning to make this change throughout the resort. So Tahiti may be unique, at least for awhile, in this respect. Am I right?

This is true. The newer longhouses did not get the extensive work the older ones did. The newer longhouses are the first on the list to get the “new look” with an exception of Tonga suites that will be the first longhouse worked on in 2005. From my discussions with them your impression is correct that once Tahiti is done the rooms will be different than all the rooms that were done in the last couple of years. I am sure they will than go through all the rooms that were just done to make them all look the same but the schedule for those has not been mentioned to me. There are even rumors that the Hawaii concierge rooms will be different than the standard rooms. They wanted to do some of this when they were working on the longhouses before but they needed to save it for another years budget.

I will say that the test rooms will be back in use at some point and they are located in one of the original longhouses so you could end up in a room that looks new and your neighbor has a different room.
