So I have only been to Disneyland 4 times twice in my youth and twice as a grown up and I have never been to the tiki show! We are a little scared of birds :) are they real? how long is the show? Would a 4 year old enjoy it?

None of the birds are real, all animatronic. I personally think that a 4-year-old would LOVE the Tiki room (I know that my 3 & 5yo boys did). The whole room comes alive, birds and flowers above, and tikis on the walls singing, and everything. I can't remember how long it is. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes? It is a nice break, though, too.

The birds aren't real, but are somewhat life-like, and there are a lot of them. They stay on their perches, though, so you can sit away from the center to give yourself a little more comfort space.

I feel like a 4-year-old would either love it or be terrified of it. Heck, that's kinda how I feel!

If you are worried you'd be afraid because of your fear of birds, you can youtube the attraction. I'm sure they have a full length video so you can preview.

I think a 4 year old would love it, and if he decides it's not his thing, it's very easy to leave the show once it's started.

The Tiki Room is one of those secret treasures of Disney. On really hot days, I love to go grab a Dole Whip and sit in the air conditioning for the show. :)

I know lots of people don't but we love it. All our kids (baby to 5) have loved it at all ages.

My DS6 and DS5 love it and have since they were babies. In fact, as a baby, the Tiki Room song was the only song that calmed down DS6 in the car. He did not travel well.

We love to grab a dole whip and sit in the AC. It's a cute little show, but be aware there is a part where there is thunder and lightning that may scare your 4 year old. It's a short part only. The rest of the show is super cute and fun IMO. We sit in the back row nearest the exit because 1. the back row has a back rest while the other rows do not and 2. in case we need to make a quick exit (which we never have had to do)

I recommend going at night. I know as adults it does start to wane on for a little bit and some kids might start to get antsy as well, but going in the evening when you're tired and your feet are sore will give you a welcome relief to sit down (the benches are padded and quite comfortable) and get out of the crowds for a little bit. But overall it's a cute show, as mentioned none of the birds actually move from their perch and the songs are cute.

Yes yes the Tiki Room is worth the time. Don't forget to enjoy the preshow too in the garden. It features a series of Tahitian gods and goddesses and also gives you time to enjoy your dole whip.

I saw the Tiki bird show for the first time on my last trip. I am not a big fan of birds either. It's actually a really cute show. My five year old loved it. Don't forget to get a dole whip!

like I said before whatever you do, please please please do not feed the birds any saltine crackers, or anything else that their little hearts and beaks may desire. Otherwise, the results are best left imagined, instead of actually realized. Believe me!
Why it was back in the summer of 2013, we couldn't wait to see Jose he is our most favorite parrot. We usually slip him several chocolate covered raisins, he absolutely positively loves them. but that can end up making a bigger mess than the saltines. Omg!
so anyway, some other families you see, started giving all the birds a lot of crackers, matter of fact, many of those crackers had Vegemite on them. because you see many families were from Aussie land and New Zealand, where Vegemite is very popular. so anyway, about halfway into the show, all of a sudden the birds are singing off key, flying about where they don't normally during the show, say a few choice words in different languages, because you see these birds are not monolingual dolts, they are bilingual and then some. so they are flapping their wings about, flying in circles dive bombing people, chattering pooping, it really just was not very pleasant for anyone including the birds!
it's actually quite humorous if you think about it. very entertaining, just a rather unpleasant sort of way hey can't have everything man!
all the while people were snapping pictures, taking video, uploading to YouTube it was a real spectacle. why it even made it on the 11 o'clock news, and on Telemundo. And also TMZ.
By the time the show ended, some small children were crying, while others were laughing. one lady even went into labor. it was so funny, should have seen how fast people started putting hats on and covering their heads with anything
they could use, why some people covered their heads in diapers, clean of course.
Ah.... the good ol days! :)
Vegemite on saltines anyone?

My nephews demand the Tiki room multiple times every visit. It's our go-to quiet time break at the park, and sometimes that last thing we do as well. It's a good way to wind down.

The thunder and lightining bit scared the little one the first time, but he was under two then. If yours is sensitive to noise, it might be a bit overwhelming; we always have ear plugs at the parks for both boys, and they use them in the Tiki Room.

When you asked if they were real....:lmao: I needed that this morning. Anyway, it's a decent show. They had a very funny version of the show at WDW for a few years, but now it's back to the same version that's at DL. For me, I find it quite dull. But on a long trip, it's a good attraction to sit and watch.

My kids LOVE the Tiki Room, but DH can't stand it, so I usually take the kids there while he holds our spot for Fantasmic. We like to sit in the back, near a corner, to get the best view. DS always likes to sit near one of the Tiki's on the wall that start to talk part way through the show. Most people go for the front rows, which is probably the worst view you can have. When you sit in the back, you can see the whole room without straining your neck.

I also wanted to add that I've been with others who thought the show was cheesy, and it is a little bit. But I think an important thing to remember is when it opened, in the early sixties, and how awesome the animatronics must have been at that time. I always imagine how blown away people must have been to see the show. I've loved it since I was a kid and it hold a special place in my heart as my mom used to sing the song to me as a kid.

We too love the Tiki Room once every trip. We usually do it when the Park is crowded so we can take a break. The song will stay with you all day. We have an old LP Disneyland record at home and my boys and I love to put on the Tiki song. The first time we took DH he was starving and was none too happy about being in there. He tells me he likes it but I'm a little suspicious about that! DH is a fan of birds though and used to have a parrot. The birds do not fly around, so they shouldn't scare you, as they are almost like humans! :dance3:
