Tiki Room Closed?

Does anyone know if the Enchanted Tiki Room is down for refurbishment? I don't see it on the scheduled list for closure, but it seems to be closed according to the MDE website. Just wondering if its actually open this week.

I didn't see it listed as one of the available attractions for the party. If that's the case, I'll have to squeeze it in from 4 to 7pm.

You might not consider this authoritative but I watched a youtube video a few days ago about this. The Tiki Room is a Trick or Treat station, but they are also "running" the attraction at the same time. So you can go in, get candy, and also watch the animatronics for a while..

The last time I went was with my Godson and his family. He was around 3 at the time. I think it scared him more than anything.

I might be wrong but isn't this one of the only attractions at WDW that Walt actually had his hands on? I thought he had a lot of imput in making the Disney World version. Hence "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Rom"?

That's the only reason I support its continuing existence. If Walt was actually involved, it's gotta stay.

I hope it's open when I'm there. It's always a joy to experience the attraction that Walt Disney built himself - with his own money. It's amazing to see the attraction the audio animatronic art form was invented for. I also love hearing the vocal performances of Disney legends such as Wally Boag and Thurl Ravenscroft. The parks shouldn't be a museum but if there's one exception it's this. You can't truly appreciate the history of the Disney parks without experiencing this.

The Tiki birds attraction has some sentimental value for those of us over 50.

Back when the MK used ticket books, the "Tropical Serenade" was a 'D' ticket attraction. Other 'D' ticket attractions were the Riverboat, the Railroad, the "Flight to the Moon" and the Skyway.

So you had 4-D tickets. Well the Riverboat sucks now and it sucked then - leaving the other four attractions as your choices. So the Tiki birds were a part of your plan. And it was a "next-to-the-best" level attraction - so it HAD to be good!

And the Tiki Bird attraction (or maybe it was the Californian version) was featured on the Disney TV show. If you saw it on TV, it had to be something that you HAD to see in person!

Because of these, it was a popular attraction. There was a long line to get in. And it was very amusing and it made people happy.

Probably about ten years ago, WDW tried to update the attraction by inserting Iago (the parrot from Aladdin). This didn't interest the kids and it offended the sentimentalists...so Disney switched it back.

Forward in time to July 2014...I took my kids to this attraction. We were almost the only ones in line. It was the same attraction as in 1972. But my kids were actually mad...mad at me for taking them to see this show.

You're right that it offended those who loved the original, but that is not why they switched it back. A fire damaged the Iago animatronic, so instead of repairing him the returned the show to the original configuration, though actually missing a segment that the fire also damaged (the part that comes up from the center). The DL version is still 100%.

Not the *only* one, but "one of" sure...depends on if you count ones based on the DL rides such as POC and Small World, even The Haunted Mansion he had some input on the DL version before he died...but the main one in WDW that really is *his* is Carousel of Progress, as it is, except for the revised final scene, what he created for the World's Fair along with Small World and the animatronic Lincoln.

I also feel that some legacy rides need to remain, (heck I'm in the camp that wants to throw Pooh out and re-built Mr.Toad, but know it will never happen) there are plenty of places to build the new attractions, but we need to keep some of the old for the memories.

It isn't just us old fogies who love the Tiki Room. DD12 suggested the song to her Tap teacher for her solo this year. They went with her other suggestion though, so she is tapping to Make 'Em Laugh instead.

I will say, I think WDW folks would have a better opinion of the attraction if it was like DL's. There is nothing in the world better than getting a dole whip (with no line ) and eating it while enjoying the show. They even encourage you to do so. The preshow there is pretty charming too

I liked the Tiki room but I don't have a great desire to see it again.

Back in the 1960's when this was built it was a technological marvel but since then the technology has come and gone in pizza parlors. The show is OK and dated but I don't think the show needs work so much as the technology needs to be revamped and updated. Robotics/animatronics have advanced greatly in the last 50 years and there's not reason they couldn't make it a more immersive experience - Have the birds fly onto the posts, more motion, etc; Maybe mix in some new tunes or maybe turn it into an actual restaurant with shows (ala Chuck E Cheese or Rainforest Cafe)

There are some things at the MK that just shouldn't be screwed around with and the Tiki Room is one of them. The worst thing they ever did was mess with it - now that it's back to the original (almost) leave it alone!!!

I was very disappointed to see it down on our trip 2 weeks ago. I had been talking for weeks of watching it with my grandson for the first time.

Don't mess with traditional attractions!!!

Cool. I suppose I'll visit twice then. Once from 4-7 for the regular show, and again while trick-or-treating.

I know by most standards the Tiki Birds suck, but I've always enjoyed it. I don't care about its history or that Walt himself was personally involved with the design in Anaheim. Can't really explain its appeal to me, just that's it so....so....out there. So bad it's good, perhaps? Was Walt on an LSD trip when he gave his input?
