Thanks. ;)
I own the entire original source audio track in stereo.

I was there (as a little kid) the first year that it opened at DL.
We saw it over and over and over.
I've seen it countless dozens times over the years at DL and WDW.

But, it is no longer "new."
Guests today just don't "get it."
It's from a time gone by.

The shows (before UNM opened at MK) where virtually identical at both parks (although the MK version has a better "rain storm.")

Since Gilbert Gottfried was embroiled in a controversy and lost his AFLAC duck voice stint, I was pretty sure Disney would be doing something to the show to erase his characterization, so this makes sense. The battling Hollywood agents in the pre-show was getting a bit lame for us as well. We're a vote "yes" for some retro-fitting:thumbsup2

When I go on the Jungle Cruise, and to the Tiki Room it makes me really think of Walt.

Add in It's a Small World, and ditto. What the Tiki room needs is some boats, so people who don't bother to scope out the fact that it's about nostalgia and corn beforehand don't get the opportunity to leave. :rolleyes1 You'll still get the people who whine about it afterwords, but you'll also get the people who love to trick newbies into enduring it, meaning some of said newbies end up riding it regularly out of sheer nostalgia.

There is a sense where IASW and the Tiki room are the theme park equivalent of boot camp - you're miserable, but you end up bonding with those who endured it with you, and actually quite nostalgic about the whole experience. With the added benefit that you can repeat the experience with wussy friends who'd never survive bootcamp, and then trump their new horror story with yours ("one time I was trapped by the Spanish Dancers for twenty minutes solid -- but I still got on again"). :thumbsup2

I was just reading on wikipedia...link here...

"On January 12, 2011, a small fire broke out in the attic of the attraction. The Iago audio-animatronic figure was severely damaged in the blaze. The original attraction is currently scheduled to re-open on August 15th, 2011. [3] "

Iago caused the fire...thats my theory
.:upsidedow .

I just figured he finally pushed the volcano goddess too far. :lmao:

My oldest niece went to DL and then WDW, and saw both Tiki Rooms.

She liked WDW's version enough to watch it a second time. I just asked the CM if we could stay for the next show. He said yes, then a minute or so later came and gave my niece a red feather and told her Iago wanted her to have one of his feathers since she loved the show. I think she may have been wearing a dress that I made her with birds all over it.

I will be taking her sister this year, so she will get to see a different version.

We will be there at the beginning of October for a shift.

Zazu and Donald did it.:rotfl:

I'll take the late August shift! Not only will it be nice to see the old version, it'll be great to have a dark cool place to escape the Aug heat for a bit!

Is it August 15th yyyyeeeetttttt??!! :hyper:

I am honestly shocked at how much I miss my Tiki Birds!! Here's hoping it opens early!!

My SD was so upset to miss it during her visit from college just after the fire, it had been years since she had been in there and it was actually one of her top items to do! We haven't been since the fire and even before then only went once due to time contraints but we are SUPER stoked to go see it, our quick trip is now in the bookings for 19-21 August WITH SD so bring it on and bring it back to great!:cool1:

My biggest concern is the fate of the Don Rickles & Phil Hartman-voiced birds during the pre-show.

Hearing Phil Hartman was always nice.

Well I loves me some tiki birds, and am so looking forward to seeing them again in December...if the show hasn't been closed by that time.

I love how you are welcomed by the CMs to enjoy your Dole Whip there. After all, isn't it sponsored by Dole.

Oh wait, was that DL where that happened?

Stinky Pete, that was DL! My kids LOVE the Tiki Room! They eat their popcorn and Dole Whips and we veg out in the nice air conditioning. It's a win-win situation! DH and I went to see the WDW version and weren't huge fans. But as a PP said, it may have to do with nostalgia and I've seen it so many times I could sing all the songs in my sleep.

My question is what does restored to "near" original mean?

Mine, too.

The old version wasn't my favorite thing in the park or anything, but I liked it. Could not stand the Under New Management one. Ugh. Would rather have seen it gone than that. So glad they're done with that.

Cautiously optimistic. :)

I'm leaving on August 13th! I hope there might be a chance it could open early, though I'm sure that's unlikely. I LOVED the old tiki room and I'm bringing my friend who's never been before with me in August and I'd love for her to see it! Perhaps we may get lucky and it'll open early...if not, can't wait to see it when I go back in October!
