Tiger Woods admits to 'transgressions'

WINDERMERE, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods says he has let his family down and regrets those "transgressions."
The golfer issued the following statement on his website tigerwoods.com:

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don't share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one's own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions.

Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it's difficult.

I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.

I was laughing at that too. He's not really admitting to his affairs. I guess all that will be coming out at some point.

well - at least he said something. He has a HUGE PR team and they all failed him this week. Had he made a statement about the accident on Friday after being released from the hospital. Had he not declined police interview after police interview and hid, he would have come across looking much better. I think this would have died quickly and woman #2 wouldn't have surfaced had he said something earlier.

A case-study in bad crisis management.

Surprised Tiger made this statement since he doesn't have to apologize to anyone other than his wife. He owes us nothing.

To me this is a huge step for him. I might be able to have a little respect for him now

All I can think of is how I would want my life scrutinized by these scum "journalists"

Nobody business but his & his families.

Owe or not the truth is NEVER as bad as the press and it will not stop until it's cleared up.

A man who makes his living in the public must remember that he will one day pay to the piper.

Little Tiger should've known better... :lmao:

I have to agree, I think this matter was a private one and it could have been defused quickly. All this ugliness didn't have to come out and with Tiger talking to the press it is already making him a villian for something that really isn't anyone else's business.

Scum journalists??? They are making a living reading what their people want to read!!

It would've STAYED his business if he wasn't being a scum. Now it's out and guess what, too bad.:surfweb:

Ugh. I know it's not fair to hold celebrities to a higher standard, but for some reason, I always thought of Tiger as being above this type of sordid drama. I guess I thought since he was so disciplined on the golf course, and seemingly conservative, that he would also be that way in his private life.

Everyone (myself included) makes mistakes, but I am awfully disappointed in his. I feel terribly for his wife right now. How humiliating to go through all of this in the spotlight.

It really is people business If he is always saying what a family man he is and how high is morals and standards are. When something like this comes out

Agreed, but I would be thinking the same thing about any man that has two young children, a wife, and has had multiple affairs (according to the "evidence" that is out there - text messages, photos, plane ticket receipts, etc.).

It really is people business if he out there sleep around and claiming to have great morals and values

When did he claim to have high morals? Since when does who he chooses to sleep with have anything to do with the public? A person has a right to live a life of privacy no matter what. He is no better then anyone else who had an affair.

Shocking!!! A man with more money than sense (and face it, he would have to have almost inhuman amount of sense to have more than he has money) has cheated on his wife with young, available, stupid girls who were blinded by his celebrity.

Stop the Presses. :lmao:

DO you not follow golf? He is known for his morals and values

What's he known for and what he says are two different things. It's not his problem if people hold him up as the anointed one.

Do you really think this is going to affect his life anyway? It won't. He'll still continue to make $100M a year from gold and endorsements, his wife won't leave him, his kids will still love him, his fans will still be there. Get over it folks.
