For the most part, we don’t do many table service meals on WDW vacations but each trip we try to get reservations at 1 or 2 spots we’ve never been to just to get a new experience. Our first of these was at Tiffins, where in our first full day of vacation we started the morning at Magic Kingdom then park hopped over to DAK for a late lunch. We heard many good things about Tiffins and wanted to try something a little bit more unique and different. Here were my thoughts:
Service/Venue- The cast members at Tiffins were all outstanding and really helped make the experience worth it. I liked how our greeter not only took us to the table but also gave us a little background on the restaurant and pointed out some different details which are things I really appreciate it. Our server, (I want to say his name was Antonio) was excellent the entire time. He was very friendly and helpful in giving us some descriptions of the different food/drink items and for it being our first time was very nice to have his insight. The restaurant itself was very beautiful and fit the theme of Animal Kingdom. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and a nice spot to just slow down and relax for a while.
Appetizers/Drinks- My wife and I each got a drink (Fire Fly and Lamu Libation) along with the Pork Belly and Bread Service appetizers. I thought the Lamu was okay but nothing to write home about, however we both really enjoyed the fire fly drink. Both apps were delicious, in particular I enjoyed the pork belly and my wife loved the Spicy Coriander Yogurt sauce that came with the bread.
Main Course- My wife got the Tamarind-braised short rib and I went with the whole-fried sustainable fish. I didn’t try the rib but my wife thought it was really good, though perhaps maybe a smaller dish than expected for the $48 price point. My fish was good, and the black bean sauce for me really put it over the top and complimented the fish very well. It was certainly a unique food item you wouldn’t expect to get at a theme park which is why we wanted to try Tiffins in the first place, so I was very pleased.
Dessert- We decided to share one dessert item and opted for the 50th celebration Chocolate Gateaux. I think that for some people this dish might be almost too chocolatey or sweet, but for us it was perfect and a great way to end the meal. If we were to go back, we would probably try new apps and main courses, but I don’t think we’d be able to pass up that dessert if it was still available.
Overall Thoughts- I think Tiffins gave us exactly what we were looking for, which was a new and unique dining experience. This was our most expensive meal of the five-day trip, but we were prepared for that and knew going in that it was going to be more of a “splurge” meal where we weren’t going to let the prices keep us from trying what we wanted. To me, its probably not someplace that will be “must-do” dining for future trips, but I would most certainly recommend it for someone that hasn’t been and wants to step out of the box and get a little more adventurous for their food options.
