Tiffany Engagement Rings

Hi,

First time posting here although ive been looking at everyones BEAUTIFUL photos! Yesterday my DBF asked me to find him some pictures of the type of engagement rings i like so browsing through here and the net i've decided i really like a couple of Tiffany rings however i have no idea how much money they are as it doesn't say on the website! Sooooooooo, does anyone have any estimated prices? In particular i like the Lucinda Rectangular one and the Three stone emerald cut diamonds.
If anyone has any idea how much these cost that would be a big help!

What size diamond are you looking at? That has a large impact on the price. I have a 3/4 carat lucida diamond. A friend of ours recently bought a 1 carat Lucida diamond that cost more than double my ring. The other qualities of the diamonds were similar.

Before you purchase a diamond it helps to know what you are looking for. All of the acronyms can be a bit confusing. This site:

Tiffany's jewlery is WONDERFUL but remember if money is an issue which for most it is (this is a huge purchase) most good jewlers can copy Tiffany style rings. So get the picture of the one you want and have your boyfriend use it as a guide. Though Tiffany quality is of course super your paying for a the name and the signature blue box. NO ONE will know when its on your hand if its TIFFANY'S or NOT.

Tiffiany's is much more than a name. They are well known for Flawless diamonds of superior color, sometimes even D, which justifies those price tags. Diamonds are very complicated and before making a purchase you really need to study them to be sure you are not being taken.

The most important thing about your diamond is COLOR. You don't want a yellow looking stone so D-I is what you should go with. I would go NO lower in color than an I. A D will cost you a fortune so F or G could work.

Clarity is more stroking your own ego. I1-I3 are the lowest in clarity and you can notice those flaws, but in all other clarities you cannot find a flaw without a loupe or microscope. SOMETIMES you can see the flaws in SI1-3 diamonds but you REALLY have to look hard.

Yes, Tiffany's is more than just the name, as sajetto said, they have exceptional quality diamonds that you cannot find at other chain jewelry stores. But, you can find the same quality at on-line retailers for less money, if money is an object. DH found mine on-line (if you're interested PM for the retailer name) and bought the diamond separate from the setting, had them both appraised, then set locally. If you are not happy with the appraisal you can send the diamond, or the setting, back. He found the ring on his own, after doing tons and tons of research on diamonds (DH is an engineer and researches what to have for lunch so he researched my diamond for months!). He knew I wanted a single round diamond, and he found the perfect one, I know I'm biased by my e-ring is exquisite

I'll agree with everyone in some way …Tiffany makes a beautiful diamond....It was one of the places we looked (during our shopping phase)...Have to admit i picked out a 50k diamond ring and my DH nearly died...I still smile when i picture his face....needless to say i didn’t get it....but every year when he asks me what i want for my birthday i simply say anything in a little blue box ....But if money is at all the issue looking at different stores is a way to go....Best bit of advice is do the research...know yourself...find out what is important to you ...In the end i got a beautiful ring he designed

I agree with the above postings research everything FIRST. My point was just that if your looking at the TIFFANY styles and love one but can't necessarily afford it they can be copied.

Quick advice on how to save money!!!! I live near a village called Wellington (Polo Country). We get lots of trust fund babies, as most polo players are, so that means lots of money. (Not me of course!) We have a custom jeweler who sells Harry Winston. BUT!!! He can mimick any ring design you want, or create your own. That drasically changes the price!! As your not paying for the turquise box or the engraved Tiffany's on the inside. Check around in your town if there is a custom jeweler, make sure he comes highly recommended. Also, right after you receive the ring have it appraised so that you did not get ripped off. My DMIL2b had him do her a 4.5 carat ring with eternity band that is valued up to 80k! My ring cost less than a thousand, only because the diamond is heirloom and therefore came free. Hope this helps and congrats!

Don't get me wrong - I loooove Tiffany's, but my fiance's budget isn't so large....so I got a Tiffany style ring which is .70 carats in platinum. Couldn't be happier with it. (Maybe my wedding band will come in a little blue box )

I did not look at e-rings before we got engaged, i knew i wanted a three stone ring, so my husband went from there. when i got it, everyone was like, it's a tiffany's ring, it wasn't, Mike just told the jewler what he wanted, and the jewler basically copied the tiffany's ring, I didn't even know what the real tiffany's one looked like until i checked out their website!

I agree Tiffany rings are gorgeous - but you are paying a good part of that for the name - I know of several people who took the Tiffany style they wanted and had it copied and nobody can tell the difference.

While I was concerned about certain things, i.e. the color, and that I wanted a 3 stone ring, I was not as concerned about where it came from. As it turned out, DF and I were vacationing in the Cayman Islands and walked into a jewelry store to look for earrings for our mothers and we ended up finding "the ring". You could have knocked me over with a feather (and I even almost talked him out of it! oops - thank goodness for salesman protecting their commission, lol) but we ended up with a beautiful 3 stone & good colored ring for a little less than half than we would have spent in NY. I am not really into jewelry and always figured I would like my e-ring, but I have to tell you I LOVE THIS E-RING!

I agree with earlier posts; you are paying much for the Tiffany's name. It's absolutely possible to get a quality stone elsewhere; my stone is a D rating in color, and comes from a local jeweler called Donald Haack.

When we shopped for wedding bands (we knew we wanted plain platinum bands), the Tiffany's ones cost about 2-3 times as much as those from other reputable places. Since the bands were plain, no one would have known whether it was from Tiffany's or not. Having been married for 4 years, I have to say that, other than when I first got the ring, I haven't had a single person ask where it was purchased. People generally don't do that with married couples.

The service my DH received from Tiffany and Co. was beyond top notch - and he was certainly not spending a lot of money in Tiffany terms. We shopped around to several jewlery stores of all different levels, and as far as I was and am concerned, no diamond that I saw compared to the Lucida. I knew what DH's budget was, and I was perfectly happy to get a smaller stone to get the ring that I wanted (which was also a complete surprise, until he proposed with it, I was convinced there was no chance ever I would get the ring I did). He made several trips to the store before finally selecting the ring that I am wearing. The sales associate that DH worked with had rings flown in from several locations for DH to look at and compare (he still loves to talk about the private shopping room that he got taken too!). She also talked him out of buying a slightly larger and more expensive ring and was more than happy to ship the ring to another Tiffany location closer to our home for him to pick it up.

Yes, he paid for extra for the blue box. But he also paid extra for the shopping experience and the service that we continue to receive after the fact. Obviously others have been very happy with the service they have gotten from other retailers both online and other brick and mortar stores. We would have never felt comfortable buying a diamond sight unseen from an online retailer. I love my Tiffany diamond whether people ask me where its from or not. And DH's experience with Tiffany while buying my engagement ring created a customer for them for life.

With Tiffany's jewelry, you are paying for the name. I'd personally rather have a diamond with good color, cut, clarity and larger carat size than a name. No one else is going to know it's from Tiffany's unless you tell them. And if you announce that it's a Tiffany ring to anyone, that's just tacky IMHO. Do what you want, but I would really suggest looking elsewhere for a better ring.

Wow thanks for all the replies!!

First off, I am not looking for a Tiffany ring just for the name - not at all! It just happens that when i was searching the net i found two on there that i loved so was just wondering the general prices for buying 'the blue box'.

Thanks for all the advice, i've been learning all about diamonds and printed all this out for my dbf, which i have sneakily left lying around with some of his work!!! He has said that he only wants a few ideas and he wants to pick it and suprise me when he proposes!!

I don't know how much he plans on spending and i really don't mind! As long as we're together the size of the ring on my finger isnt that important to me.

I'm definatley going to suggest to him to take the ideas/pictures of the ones i like to an independant jeweler and see what can be created as I feel this is more personal!

And we will be taking a trip to the Tiffanys in Orlando in September just to get a bigger picture of what you can get for your money!!

Hopefully one day in the not so distant future I'll be posting the pic of my e- ring!!!

You are not just paying for the 'name', as some people have so blythely put it, when you buy a ring from Tiffany's. You're buying exceptional quality workmanship and customer service. ALL Tiffany rings have lifetime maintenance policies which cost nothing to the customer. I can send the ring out to be professionally polished at any time, they'll repair anything that happens to it, resize it if my finger gets bigger or smaller, etc., and none of this costs me a thing. I'll still be able to do this when I'm 50 or 100 and if I pass the ring on to my children they'll be able to do it as well.

Tiffany rings also appreciate in value over the years, whereas a ring from another chain jeweler may not. If you want a good heirloom, I'd go with Tiffany. Also, just because other jewelers may be able to mimic Tiffany styles, that doesn't always mean they'll do it well, that the quality of the materials will be as good, or that the customer service level will be as good. Sure, you may get lucky, but you really need to know a great deal about diamonds to make sure you're getting a quality product before you buy. With Tiffany, you already know their products are quality.

I have a Tiffany "Etoile" solitare. It is very distinctive looking and I actually have had people ask me where we bought it. It's not a huge ring, not even a quarter carat, but it is extremely beautiful and attracts attention. Plus it is an investment I can pass on to my descendants.
