Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

Here are the shirts I made this past weekend. I tried to do the spiral effect, but it didn't really turn out. I twisted the shirts after soaking them in the soda ash...maybe I need to try twisting them before the become wet??

My son's shirt did not have a defined Mickey Head...I think I put the rubber bands too far beneath the stitching (???) so I used a bleach pen to make it more clear....and messed up the shape of the Mickey a little bit. Luckily he is 3 years old and still loves it!

My son wore his outside this afternoon....played in the sprinkler...and came inside all blue! How do you make sure you get all of the dye out of the shirts before wearing them???

You did great!! Don't feel bad, with the small shirts is hard to get a pretty sharp spiral since the garment is so small. Your colors and mickey shape looks awesome, you might want to thigh the rubber bands a little more to keep the dye from running.

Thanks, Pixie! Any hints on getting all of the dye out of the shirts so they do not stain your skin?? I rinsed about 5 different times in cold water and then a washing machine cycle yet they are still giving off dye.

I am making shirts for DD's Girl Scout troop and the leader is worried about the dye coming off on the girl's skin when they sweat.

Thanks again!!

Everyone check your local Dollar Trees...my store had a cart full of Jerzees and Nike brand plain 100% cotton t-shirts! :cool1: Too bad they did not have any in adults sizes!

I use syntraphol and never had any problems, is normal to see dye in the first few washes.

anyone know if a cycle in the washer with vinegar would keep the dye from running?

Lisa

The shirts run the first and second time, that is normal. They should run after that.

Back from 6 days of Disney with a group of 11. Worn out! We wore our shirts to Magic Kingdom and got so many complements, and many people asking where they could buy the shirts. Some of the cast members gave the kids stickers. Thanks for helping to make our trip memorial!

Everyones creations are awesome!!

If anyone would like to help with Tie Dye shirts for a family of 5 for a Big Give, please let me know - we are lacking them in Perrin's Big Give! He is going on his MAW trip at the beginning of June!!

PM me if you have a question! Thanks!!

I'm going to try and do some shirts in a couple of weeks but I have a couple of questions.

When dying the shirts with two colors, would you just do 1/2 of the circle one color and the other 1/2 the other color? Or do you do alternate each piece of the circle marked by the rubberbands?

Also, do you use the one of the same colors for the head or a totally different color?

I did see the pictures on the first post but I'm having a hard time visualizing how the spiral colors come out just by twisting the shirts into a circle.

Hope that made sense.

Thanks!
Martha

PP if you go back a page or so, I posted a couple links that show you shirts with spirals. Basically, the more sections of your "pie", the more "arms" your spiral will have. The first picture is if you split your "pie" into halves, the second picture is if you did it in quaters. The spirals would still come out this way even with the Mickey Head. You could do the Mickey Head in one of those colors but you may find that it bleeds into the "arms" of the spiral, and you'd have to outline it with paint or something or bleach around it to give it definition. Alternately, you could use a 3rd color, and use it solely on the Mickeyhead. Lots of options.

*Pixie, I hope you don't feel like I'm stepping on your toes by answering questions that are probably meant for you. Just trying to help out!"

Thank you so much for explaining it again! I somehow missed that post. :)

I do have another question.. Is it the thickness of the rubberbands underneath the bunched up mickey head that gives it the white around the head (assuming the dye does not bleed through all the way)?

Thanks!

How Dare you???? :scared1: LOL, just kidding! Not at all, I think we all can help out one another. :thumbsup2

Hahaha well you can field that last question because...and don't tell anyone...I haven't actually done a Mickey Head one!
