Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Heck yeah!! And then a tie-dye (aka Swirl) party at the Mont!!! :woohoo::rotfl:
HAHAHAHA! Ah man, we could use the BLUE ROOM!! That sounds so darn good right now- I could really go for some of those cheese fries!! :woohoo:

Threw it in the wash alone- didn't help - still a mess - no more white areas.

Guess I'm gonna throw them away. The only ones that are okay are the ones that are blue & yellow - but any that had the red on (the other 3 shirts) had bleeding occur. ONe one THINK that allowing them sit for days before washing that there wouldn't be a problem. Maybe they sat too long before being washed
I'm just so bummed - I wanted these for our trip in Oct:sad1:
:confused3 Sorry sweetie :sad2: You still have time to make more before your trip though! You learned a lot doing your first batch! And save the shirts- the kids can wear them to do art in, play outside- you never know!

Yes, like tinker said, we all have our oops's, I had mine. Don't give up, you still have time.

Yeah - but I don't want to bother if I don't know WHY they dye bled like that - it would be a waste of time to do it all again to have the same outcome - ya know? If I know what I did wrong then I could correct it & I wouldnt mind doing it again - but since I don't that's what so hugely frustrating!:sad1:

Hello, tie dyers!

Wow, I've missed some great shirts! It's exciting to see so many wonderful designs, I love how we're all basically achieving the same end, but so differently.

Luvmyfam, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with the shirts! You could always try again. :goodvibes

Is it possible to tie dye a shirt that isn't white? Obviously the colors would be slightly different then the bottle says, but taking that into account, is there any reason the tie dye wouldn't work? The shirt in question is pink (lighter), and 100% cotton.

HEY TK!!! I was missing you missy! I know you have been super busy though!!! I have a busy week ahead, so I probably wont be on the Dis much- but drop me an email and let me know how you are doing with the biz! XO

PS- I have pics of me and my DS in our MNSSHP costumes on my facebook now if anyone wants to see them!! I am thrilled with the way my dress turned out! And DS is soooo proud of his PC costume!!

Hey Jenn, I have a pink LS v neck that I have been wanting to add brown to- it has always worked great for me in the past! It's kind of nice having to worry about one less color! ;)

OK! I tried the Bullseye and it is a lot easier and it looks cool too. Not bad for being the first one, I left more white to see the effect. This is size Medium, purple and pink. Can't wait to make some halloween and christmas colors.. :yay:

What ya'll think? :confused3 :lovestruc

I always get so crazy busy during my work week, which is Wed - Sat. So I basically lurk through the thread and then try to catch up on the weekends!

I'll definitely PM you, I'm getting ready to place some big tee and dye orders, so that's really exciting! :goodvibes

I like the bullseye a lot! Ever since everyone here started talking about it, I'm really interested to try some of my own. :thumbsup2

I also just wanted to mention that I think you do some of the best spirals I've seen. Fantastic! :goodvibes

Yea TK! Sounds good let me know!

Pixie- great job with the bullseye! And your spirals ARE amazing!

Yea TK! Sounds good let me know!

Alright, I bit the bullet and ordered. Hereby destroying any profits I made on my first round of shirts, and most likely running a little deficit. :lmao:

I did, however, get some great deals going through jiffyshirts and Kohl's, oddly enough. And I ordered my dye from Dharma, so that's exciting. I ended up getting a black, blue, red, yellow, and I went for orange figuring I'd be doing some Halloween ones soon. I'd love to have a Halloween inspired tie dye to wear myself on our trip.

Speaking of trips, you must be getting so excited!!! :goodvibes

Did you order from the Kohls website, or did you go to the store? You know- they prob are clearancing out a lot of stuff right now, I didn't even think about that! And don't worry- you gotta spend it to make it!

Yes, I am very excited!!! 2 weeks from today! Last night I had a dream I was at WDW and saw people wearing the shirts I had made! hahahahaha! Of course, I was up til 1am dying last night so that prob has a lot to do with it!

Thank you Tinker.

I ordered from jiftyshirs as well and also new dyes from dharma, I cannot wait. :) and found some nices shirts on sale at old navy and khols. :)

I absolutely love ON shirts to dye on! Especially the womens shirts- the way their cotton is blended really helps saturate the color. I have access to a warehouse here in AR, and they often have ON shirts for less than you can get them in the store, so that really helps me a lot. I love Jiffy, but sometimes their sizing is a little crazy (not THEIR sizing, but the shirt manufactures I guess). Especially with the womens fitted shirts. It may be just the fact that I expect them to be form fitting and long, like one you would get at ON, and they arent! Another awesome shirt to dye on is American Apparel shirts- they are more expensive, but man, they are comfy and the V's are super duper low (if you like that kinda thing! haha).

Were you using fiber reactive dye or some other type of dye? If fiber reactive, did you use soda ash? Did you prewash the shirts?

Also, I wouldn't leave dye on for more than 48 hours in a humid climate, and no more than 24 in a non-humid climate. The shirts need to stay damp for the reactive process to occur. Even in humid FL, I don't leave the dye on for more than 24 hours, but that's my personal preference.

I also don't hand wash, although I do a quick rinse. The machine does a much better job of quickly washing out residual dye than I could do.

ACK!:scared1: my red/pink ran when it was handwashed all over the nice white areas I had.... I'm SOOOO frustrated now! I'm ready to throw out the tiedye!

I just wanna cry! It was the cutest looking shirt!

Luvmyfam,

I had a thought about this...do you know if you have hard or soft water?

The minerals in hard water will fight for the binding sites that the dye adheres to. If you have hard water, that can cause the dye to wash right out. I only did one test strip with hard water, and never again, and I'll NEVER use hard water when I'm dying real shirts. The colors all washed out to dull nothingness. :confused3

If you don't have soft water, or can't get to somewhere that has soft water, you may need to buy a water softener to add to your soda ash soaking water, dye water and wash water.

HTH.

I actually ordered from the Kohl's website because I found a 30% off code and free shipping codes as well. It made 3 packs of kids white tees so inexpensive, it was awesome! :goodvibes

Even your subconcious mind has tie dye on the brain! :lmao:

Thank you Tarzanskat :)

You're quite welcome, I love seeing different styles, and your Mickey heads are nice and crisp too! Do you use any resist?

I don't have as good luck finding sales at Old Navy, I'll have to pay more attention now since you both recommend them to dye on. :goodvibes

Yeah, you can really catch some good deals at times- but I probably wouldnt use them as much if I didn't have access to the warehouse! They are just good quality shirts- low shrinkage :)

Ooohh--- are your codes still good?? You might have to share with me! I stock up big time on shirts, if I had to make a guess I have at least 75 blanks in my closet! hahahahahaha!

OK, picture sharing time- I am not going to post all of the ones I did this weekend- but if anyone wants to see more, just PM me and I will give you a link to my flickr account!
