Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

I love the halloween shirts -- just wondering, what colors did you use? Was it just orange on a white shirt and then black for the MH? It looks like you drew the MH on afterwards? Tx

we did the mickey heads first with black dye... then we did the tye dye with orange on a white shirt. we didn't draw the mickey heads on afterwards... that was the first thing we did :)

Thanks for all the complements!!!!

Great shirts Nicole! Your Mickey's truned out so nice!

I'm feeling so inspired to do this again! I love the idea of having a Mickey tie dye party! We have a few people from our cruise meet that live close by. I wonder if they would like to get together to do this? That would be a blast.

Hello everyone!

So, we are doing a Land and Sea trip in January and I wanted something for the Pirates in the Caribbean party on the ship, and we may also do a Pirate and Princess party night at WDW if they offer one while we are there. I can't honestly see us dressing up in full costumes, so I decided to try to do a tie dye for the parties. My idea was to do smokey, watery blues for the shirt and I did a smokey sort of red for the mickey. The pics are below. They didn't really come out exactly as I had in mind, but I think they are kind of cool anyways. I'd love to know what you all think!

I think they're pretty - what colors/brand did you use? I'm getting ready to dye tonight or tomorrow, white shirts with orange and black dye. Hoping for the best, my DS wanted Halloween colors!

Thanks. :goodvibes I used Dharma dyes - I highly recommend them. :thumbsup2 For these shirts the 3 blues are: Midnight Blue (the darkest), Wedgewood Blue (the most gray) and Peacock Blue. The reddish is Dusty Rose.

Hi, everyone.
Over August and early September, I read every post and looked at every picture on this thread. Thanks to all who posted pictures and tips. I felt confident that this was something I could do. Spent a few weeks gathering supplies, using my 40% off coupons at Michaels and AC Moore :-)

Did my shirts last weekend, pics posted below. I really wanted more blue and purple, but they ended up with alot of green. I guess that is the beauty and originality of tie dying, you're never really sure what you're going to end up with.

I am not a big t-shirt wearer. So everyone's assignment was to buy a white cotton shirt that was to their taste. The men got regular craft store cotton t-shirts. I bought a ladies all cotton tee with a v-neck, but it was a bit thicker than a regular t-shirt, with a brushed feel, a little stretchy, even though it had no spandex in it. Two of the shirts had 1-2% spandex. I bought the sythrapol detergent to wash the shirts, just to be extra careful.

The regular men's cotton t-shirts faded the most in the post-dye washing process. The colors stayed most vibrant and contained (with less bleeding together) on the shirts with the spandex. The two cotton v-necks were good, too, but just a shade less vibrant than the ones containing spandex.

I thought I tied my mickey heads tight enough and made the rubber bands tight, but the green dye really seeped through, so I did have to touch up three of the shirts with the clorox gel bleach pen.

I'm very happy with them for a first attempt. Looking forward to doing a second batch sometime in different colors.

Here are my pictures, look forward to wearing the shirts NEXT WEEK!!!! :yay:

Thanks again to all who posted tips and pictures. Made all the difference!
