Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

well guys we did our shirts tonight and the hubby was sweet enough to help me. I think this project is way more messier than I thought. We got dye all over the place. I think I even got it on my mickey head. So we have the 24 hr wait. wish me luck.:cool1:

I did mine today too. Just waiting to see what they look like tomorrow. It was definitely messy, so I'm glad we did it outside.

Good luck:banana:

well......we r going to have to do a round two on the shirts. They did not come out as good as I had hoped. Some had too much white and my mickey head looked like a heart. I dont know how pixie dust gets hers to look so awesome. and as for a spiral...:confused3 what spiral. Ok ok i have plenty of time before we go to try it again. But we did have a lot of fun doing them.

I think ours turned out fantastic, granted not as good as some I've seen posted here, but everyone loves them and can't wait to wear them. Thought I would share a few pics.

Here is the front of the youngest

I would post the others but they all pretty much look the same. Overall I am really pleased with how they turned out. :woohoo:

Bungle, not too much white, nice swirl, and good looking Mickey. Harleysmom, I like the shirt were the swirl starts in the corner. :hippie:

It really was a lot of fun. I did the floss and the rubber band part and then let the kids put they dye where they wanted. For them it was really exciting to take the bands off and rinse them and see what they looked like. Now they are asking if we can make special tiedyes for our beach camping trip in august:rotfl:

My son has to bring in a shirt to his kindergarten class already rubber banded for tie dying which will be done by another parent at a later date. Therefore, we won't be able to send in a wet shirt. It will only be a single color tie dyed shirt.

He really likes the spiral mickey design, but I was curious if you think it would work even if not wet. Also, I think the parent will just submerge the shirt in dye instead of applying with a bottle tip. Will that impact getting the dye into the creases? I just want to make sure it would turn out alright. As you might be able to tell I have never tie dyed before, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I apologize, but I have read the first dozen or so pages, and the last few, I can't read all 175 pages, so bear with me if this has been asked before...

Pixiedust - would you be willing to post pics of what your shirts look like when you have the dye applied but before unbanding? I am still torn between trying "spiral" and "ring" dyeing... I get the "twist" concept for the spiral dye, but how do you apply the dye? Is it like coloring each slice of pie a different color (I hope that makes sense).

I plan to do a red/white/blue thing... I don't mind lots of white as long as I get color in some parts. I just want to avoid making purple, if you know what I mean. That's why I thought spiral might be too complex...

Thanks in advance!

That is one of my favorties as well... I made it just like a tradtional spiral but started in the corner of the shirt.

Erinsmom your shirts turned out great. I especially like the pink one, good mickey placement.:goodvibes
