What products do you find work best @ repelling ticks? What do you "do" while camping or hiking to help protect your family from ticks? I know that ticks are everywhere so its not just camping or hiking you have to worry about.

my little guy (8) we think may have lime disease :( we are going for blood work this afternoon and I feel like such a bad mommy! (we never pulled a tick off of him, but what I THOUGHT was a regular bug bite yesterday, it developed into the classic BULLSEYE pattern. The doc-in-the-box gave him an antibotic last night and this afternoon we are seeing his pedicitration for blood work etc) I use the sportsman outdoor bug repellant and we wear pants/long sleves when possible but I would be very interested in hearing what everyone else does or suggests. We love to camp, and I haven't noticed the ticks being the problem in years past that they already are this year. We have been camping for the weekend twice in the past 4 weeks and plan to continue as much as possible throughout the summer and fall.

Thank you!

We never use tick repellent but always shake out our clothes and do a visual inspection when we come inside.

Long or short sleeves make no difference....ticks hop on us when we brush up against bushes or tall grass and then crawl into position for a meal. I've used Deep Woods Off, but the best thing is taking a shower immediately after you return using diluted bleach water...ticks HATE bleach and they will hop right off (just be careful as bleach makes shower floors slippery). Put the bleach water in a spray bottle and then squirt onto your body...rinse with the shower water...wait a few minutes and then shower normally. As extra insurance, ask someone in your party to look you over (concentrate on you head and any other areas that you can't see yourself).

Hope this helps

We use bug spray all the time and we put Frontline on our dog. I have already pulled 2 ticks off the dog, my dad has already had 2 infected bites and our neighbor is on antibiotics for his tick bite. I don't think anything really helps.

I am trying to decide which is worse; TICKS, BEDBUGS or LICE....:scared1:
