picked our tickets up from the travel agent today....
VERY disappointed to see that the baggage allowance is only 15KG:scared1:
i have one case packed already (which is one of our smallest ones) i weighed it and its 16.6KG!!!!!!!!!!!
the thought of having to take 4 cases (there is 4 of us travelling, each with 15kg allowance.) with two kids and a buggy is REALLY not appealing to me!!

i asked travel agent if we could just take the 2 cases as long as we stick to our max 60kg for family and she said it wasn't an option, EACH PIECE shouldn't be more than 15

No way I cant believe that for a long haul flight !! What company is that !!!

That is crazy for a long haul flight!! :headache:

what airline you travelling with?

Im sorry to say we ONLY travel with Virgin to Orlando in normal economy seats and you can take 2 suitcases each and its upto 45kg each. We once flew with an airline 3 years ago and only could have 20kg- we was 18kg before we left and on the way home we was WAYYYYY over weight but was lucky about being charged $$$$$'s because the scales wouldnt work so we got away with it. So this year, there was 2 of us, and we had like 90kg of baggage in FOUR huge suitcases, i'd def reccoment flying with Virgin- especially somewhere like Florida!

Since then we have travelled with Virgin and the tickets have been cheap! 2 years ago we paid £399 and for March this year (3week stay offsite disney) was £352 per person.

Also with Virgin, you can take extra luggage if travelling with young children and you can take either a buggy or car seat for free too.

They will almost certainly make you take some out and get you down to 15kg per bag.
We flew American last Saturday, while in MCO airport they were making everyone over 23kg re-arrange there bags(almost every family).
We only had 2 bags between 3 of us one at 16kg and one at 15kg so we were fine.

I once had a problem with camera bag at Newcastle airport with Tompsons going to Europe. I think the limit was 5kg pp my camera bag came to 8kg(between 2 of us) she made me remove 3 kg into a carrier bag we had, most of the 3kg was sarnies and drinks we were going to eat before going onboard. It was a regular camera bag, nothing big but thats the rules.

its with Thomas Cook....
we travelled with them last year and it was way higher.

guess i'll have to go and buy some small cases and split everything up between the 4 :guilty:

were in the same boat theres 5 of us but we are taking 3 cases(15kg)and a wheelchair. cant take anymore bags as we cant fit more than 3 cases and wheelchair in the van we rent:sad2: one of the cases is nearly all medical supplies too!! glad we are in a villa and can do some washing.

Goodness me, that's a shocking weight to have to stick too! :sad2:

They are tightening up on it though, we flew with First Choice last April and combined we were 10kg over their allowed weight limit coming home and we were given the option of taking items out - or paying the surcharge. Luckily (if you can call it that!) we had exactly $200 left over from the holiday - and that's what it cost to get our cases home :scared1: A lot of money, but there was nothing we wanted to leave there :confused3

We're booked with Thomas Cook Signature next May and they use Virgin as their planes, so we're thankful for the unlimited baggage next time! There's 5 of us this time, so we should be pretty much okay!

Wow thats a low weight ! i can see the market being flooded with light cases for sale in no time ;)

I'm with Thomas Cook too and we have the same allowance. I hardly plan on taking anything out there at all, will most likely fill one case with a few things and put that inside the other. On the way back...that's another story! I think we'll be ok. We'll have three cases and 3 backpacks we can take onto the plane so stuff can go in there too lol.

That would never do me..this is the reason why we fly Virgin.
I can imagine they would ask you to rearrange your cases and that is the last thing you want to be doing.:headache:
I find that ridiculous for a weight allowance.:sad2:

this is one of the reasons i use Virgin or BA 15kg would not even do DD

That's a ridiculous weight limit, an empty suitcase can weigh 5kg
I think I'd buy some lightweight holdalls

Just to clarify that Virgins allowance is 2 x bags per person, with each bag having a max weight of 23 kg.

Its the first time ive ever heard that you cannot pool the allowance together and take 2 or 3 cases instead of 4 - i'd check with the airline.

We travel alot and always pool the allowance together by taking just 3 or 4 cases (there is usually 5 of us)

I know the only restriction they do uphold is that any one piece of luggage cannot be over 30kg because of health and safety to the baggage handlers.

Id defo check this - i think she gave you wrong information

Plus weve just been with Thomas cook shorthall (May 09)- we took 2 cases for the 3 of us.

I think max weight of bag will depend on when the flights were booked, under which policy, changed 4th Mar 09.
Old policy http://book.flythomascook.com/skylights/html/rnt-popup-default.html
New policy http://flythomascook.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/flythomascook.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=274

Looks like new policy is 20kg max for a bag. 30kg for premium. So yes you can pool but only upto 20kg now.

All airlines let you pool but you have to stick the the max/bag, Virgin is 23kg in economy.
Glad I don't fly with Charters, even though we hardly take much luggage their polisies are a nightmare to understand.

As i understand, under the old policy its means that - your hold luggage was included in your flight price - but under new policy you now have to pay to put luggage in hold (this is usually paid when you book as you are asked if you want hold luggage), and like you say Wayne they stipulate the weight you can prepay for - i dont think this means you cannot pool tho - we've never had any probs - only like you say the charters are being very naughty now charging us to put luggage on a plane when its clearly to a holiday destination!!!
