I thought we had 14 days from first use day ticket before they expired. Now when I try to look up ticket pricing and decide which is best for our stay, I am seeing this...

Valid on any three days from Jan 8 - Jan 12. I now have 5 days to use my 3 day ticket?

Please someone tell me I'm wrong and have more than a 5 day window.

There is a flexible option that allows you to use the ticket on any date and gives you the 14-day window. When I priced our tickets out, it was about $45 per ticket to add that option. The price of the option does change based on the ticket you're looking to buy.

Only exception is if tickets are purchased as part of an on site package at a Disney hotel. In that case any ticket days are valid for the length of stay.

If off site or a room only res at WDW then the tickets carry the new use restrictions. Tickets also have "start date" pricing variations, can alter dates for additional charge if any, or pay for the additional "flex" option to use any length ticket for up to 14 days without picking a "start date". In effect, have to pay for the extra "flex" option now for a ticket to be used as they were previously.

Thanks. Well if it's not this straw it will for sure be the next one that breaks this camels back!
Unbelievable!

You said it, Melissa!

If I buy a one day ticket now (I either buy a one or two day ticket for a 5-7 day stay) the one day (supposedly bought well in advance to coordinate ADR and FP windows) can only be used on THE DAY. T-H-E D-A-Y you indicate when you buy it. Guess the corporate clowns are trying to say they don't want people buying one days and basically want people in the parks most days of their visits.

I'll come for the 2020 October M&G/DISMeet but there are other places I can spend my vacation dollars and let other folks get on the WDW treadmill. I'm ready to step off....

@Robo our current reservation is on property at Fort Wilderness from Jan 6 - Jan 21. So if I purchase a 3 day hopper, we are good for a 14 day window (same as in the past)? Not this 5 day window? The 5 day window would only apply if staying off property?

@bama_ed I'm sorry you feel the way I do too. Just really adding up the past couple years on changes never being for the better it seems. I have all these unforgettable Fort/Disney moments and memories and Im starting to sour. I don't want to sour!!! I think it's time for us to turn our two - three weeks a year at a Disney down to one this trip. We are now talking Disney for a week then head south to Key West and find some campgrounds down there. We considered this last year. I want to keep the January trip cause who knows what kind of construction will be invading in January 2020.

True, more or less.
"Shorter" (fewer number of days) tickets are able to be used through the end of a WDW resort stay.
But, it does not require that the guest's tickets be purchased "as part of an on-site package."
Any valid ticket, no matter how/where purchased, will have any remaining entries be usable through the end of
a WDW resort stay (up to 14 days from first use.)

@Robo - If I'm reading your answer correctly then I'm confused. I'm a DVC member so never purchase a package and from what I understand if I purchase a 6 day ticket then I only have 9 days from the first day of use even though I might be staying on property for 12 days unless I want to pay for the flexible option. I even verified this information with DVC but your answer above states something different. Just trying to make sure I understand all the new changes.

I believe “length of stay” validity is only for tickets purchased with s package. Tickets purchased separately will have the valid use window based on the ticket (so yes, 5 days to use a 3 day ticket). The only other option to extend those dates is to purchase the “Flexible” option which will allow you the 14-day window.

Enjoy your vacation!

In all fairness this is not accurate. You can move the day to any day you want, just have to pay more if it's a more expensive day and won't get a refund if it's a less expensive day. But you aren't forced to use it that one day, or loose it.

This new change only benefits 1 group that I know of, those who don't plan a stay longer than the current use periods for a given ticket. Those folks are often finding their ticket price has dropped or didn't increase. So someone who wants a 3 day ticket for a 3 day stay can come out ahead. And package folks are finding it to be a wash since they aren't impacted by the use period at all.

DVC holders who don't have an AP and AP holders who bring non-AP guests with them are really getting hit hard. For any trip that doesn't fit the use period that is.

I agree -- this is another thing that seems greedy ... grasping ... hard-hearted ... ill-natured ... glutenous ... avaricious ... punitive ... unkind. Lots of people like to do a mid-week arrival, which allows the weekend days to become rest days. Depending upon your specifics, this is problematic.

There is a flexible option that allows you to use the ticket on any date and gives you the 14-day window. When I priced our tickets out, it was about $45 per ticket to add that option. The price of the option does change based on the ticket you're looking to buy.
Again, adding a rather large cost for small flexibility seems wrong. These tickets are extremely expensive, and Disney isn't making any friends with these stringent regulations on dates.

AngiTN,

If that's the case, I'm relieved but it certainly isn't clear as you step through the on-line process of buying a ticket (I confess I did not complete the purchase but did go through it to see the selection process and options).

And the no-refund or upcharge repolicy based on day used does not appear to have changed from the prior approach IIRC.

Thanks for the update.

Cost for the "Flexible" option really depends on your dates. I found some as low as $8.50 the other day to add Flexible to a 5-day ticket in April but as much as $72 to add it to January tickets. It's a very broad range; generally the less expensive dates will cost more to add the Flexible option, and the less expensive dates will see a smaller upcharge to add Flexible. It essentially brings that ticket up to 1 set price regardless of the dates.

I think this is the info at least I was curious about.. it is a copy and paste from the ticket sticky where you must click on another link for updated ticket info...
And I am not a fan as we own DVC and don't go to the parks much.. 2-3 days so this will not work for us either....
hopefully they will come to their senses at some point in the near future...

I had the same reaction then I started to break it down and realized this is their way of "reducing package sizing" instead of a big price increase. Like the way most ice cream companies just quietly made their half gallon containers less than half a gallon, instead of increasing the price of the half gallon. Here, Disney took an option that not everyone needed and made it al a carte, making their base ticket price increase small, or even dropped in some cases. Yes, those who need this are hit with a bigger ticket price increase but there are a whole lot of guests who don't need a longer valid use period. They are not at all upset by it. Probably won't even notice it. And the same for anyone who books a package. They won't have to pay to add it on.

What does stink is this hits DVC the most since they'll rarely benefit from a package.

What they need to do is offer DVC tickets that are exempt from the use period limits. The word they are doing this for Cruise guests since they'll do Land/Sea/Land. You'll have to purchase from DCL to get it. If they can do something like that for them they should do something like that for DVC.

I didn't realize the "flexibility price" varies from week to week. What I looked at was $53. Regardless, I don't think a charge to "keep the ticket open" only days longer is a reasonable thing to offer. People buy these tickets months in advance, and all too often plans change -- suddenly they're forced to arrive a day later or can stay a day longer. I'm sticking with grasping and punative.

Eh, I can't get on board with that. It seems to be unnecessarily complicated. Just sell tickets.
