I know I read somewhere awhile back to purchase a discounted hopper ticket with no expiration and exchange it for an Annual pass after we have used it one day. . :thumbsup2

I bought the 7 day no expirations ticket/hopper for 380.95. The DVC price for an Annual Pass is 392.00 The value of this ticket is 413.22 so the cost to upgrade would be zero.

BUT I think what I should do for the other 3 tickets I need is buy the 6 day no expiration/hopper for 348.00. The DVC Annual Pass is 392.00 but the value of the 6 day no expiration/hopper is 378.08 so the upgrade would cost approx. 14.00.

Please let me know if I am missing something. I saw a thread about this awhile back but somehow I deleted it and I want to make sure I am doing this correctly. I think all I need is the 6 day hopper with no expiration to upgrade to the DVC annual pass.. I don't know why I thought I needed the 7 day one. :confused3

Please advise.

have described is my understanding. There is a sticky thread at the top written by a CM that works with tickets. The seventh entry specifically addresses your question.

Thanks, It looks like getting the 6 day hopper with no expiration will be my best deal in upgrading to a DVC annual pass?

Generally a non hopper works better for this purpose.

1. Figure out the price you will pay for the starting ticket.
2. Figure out the gate price of the starting ticket.
3. Figure out the cost of the ticket (AP, etc.) you will upgrade to.
4. After some usage the ticket is valued at gate price for upgrade purpose.
5. Expect Disney to keep the change if the starting ticket has a value greater than what you want to upgrade to.

Your best bet for a ticket is whatever ticket you can get with the biggest discount without the "gate" price (Disney's selling price) going over the gate price of the target ticket. It doesn't really matter if it is the one closest in price to the target ticket. If you can get $20 off a 5-day expiring hopper, but only $10 off a 6-day non-expire non-hopper, even though the latter ticket is closer in price to an AP, in the end you've only saved $10 instead of $20 - you just paid less out of pocket at the time you upgraded.

So the best ticket varies depending on what discounts are offered.
