I'd like to "upgrade" some 1-day base tickets to 8-day MYW w/Park Hopping. Is this considered an upgrade, where I will get credit for the current 1-day base price? Or, will I basically be purchasing new tickets and be credited whatever I originally paid for those 1-day tickets?

ok, this will sound nuts at first... but teh chorus will chime in to correct me if I am wrong... you want to use your ticket first... which ever park you are going to on the first day, go. Then goto guest services and have them upgrade the tickets.

OK this assumes that the one day ticket you have, is upgradeable... if it is from a time share, or a comp ticket, it cannot be upgraded in any form.

:thumbsup2 Wildeoscar gave you the correct info! Go thru the turnstyle using your 1 day Base ticket, which has now "activated" it, or used up it's 1 day base park purpose. At any time during the day go to guest services ( probably best if all of your party who are upgrading are present, but not sure if they HAVE to be) and pay the difference owed for an 8 day hopper. If you would like to do the upgrade PRIOR to entering a park, you can go to Guest Services at Downtown Disney, or if there are any outside of any of the parks. Resorts can not do this type of upgrade, at least that is what I have been told. As far as monetary value goes, whatever it the retail cost of a 1 day base was on the calendar day you checked into your resort ( I am assuming these are from a free dining promo or dining promo in general) will be deducted from the CURRENT cost of an 8 day hopper. Say you were charged $72 for a 1 day base, that 72 will be deducted from Disneys current price for a MYW 8 day w/hopper ticket. You cannot combine all your 1 day base tix to cover a big portion of 1 persons hopper either, 1 credit per 1 new ticket. You can not be "credited " any money from the 1 day base to your credit card, like a return, you can only apply it toward an upgrade, or use it for it's one day prpose and buy a 7 day hopper elsewhere if that is more reasonable for you.
Hope this made sense and if I have anything wrong, others please help!

Does this also apply if you have a package and your one day park "ticket" is on your room key? Just making sure I know what to do when we get to Disney and need to upgrade to 5 days.

Thanks!

I think the difference is that if you go to the PARK and activate the ticket, you will get the current cost of a one day MYW ticket credited toward the 8 day hopper.
If you go somewhere BEFORE the ticket is activated you will get what you PAID for the ticket credited toward the 8 day hopper.
So if you USE the ticket first you get to KEEP the benefit of any discount you got on that ticket, including if it was purchased eg last year. If you upgrade BEFORE using the ticket, you lose the benefit of that discount.

How would it work if you have the land/sea package? You get the 3 day park hopper with it...can you convert that to a AP? I am trying to figure out how much it would cost me extra to get the AP if you can do it that way...thanks!

Works the same way.

Whatever a MYW ticket that you HAVE is worth, that's how much you will get in trade for the upgrade.

Check the price of a 3-DAY MYW HOPPER, and the price of an AP.

The difference price is what you'd pay to upgrade.

srwarden1928, got to the heart of what my question was. Of course, I want to maximize the amount I get toward the "purchase" and/or "upgrade." It would be fair to get only what I paid for that 1-day ticket, but it would be awesome if I could get the current 1-day price for credit. I knew that going into the park was the way to go, but I wasn't sure with 1-day tickets...

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks...it looks like a season pass is 477 and a 3 day park hopper is 264...another question...I have an OLD 3 day world ticket...back before the days of AK and MGM...I have one day left on it and they don't expire...can you put that towards a annual pass? thanks! Also can you wait till the end of your trip to upgrade? We are getting the dining plan and I don't think you can use that with an AP....I am not sure how that would work...but we are adding days after our cruise that we won't have the dining plan for...

Old tickets that have been partially used cannot be upgraded. They can convert it to a 1-day MYW hopper, but that hopper cannot be upgraded either.

One note on where you can do the upgrade.

If you're just adding days or options to the ticket, you can do it anywhere -- ticket window, guest relations, hotel concierge. If you're upgrading to an annual pass, though, it can not be done at the resort.

Once you've used the ticket, you have 14 days to do the upgrade. Even for a 1-day ticket. So, if it's more convenient to do the upgrade at your hotel or somewhere else later in the week, that option's open to you. Or you can get it out of the way first thing -- walk through the turnstile and immediately into guest relations.

Also, as another note, remember that if you have any ticket on a resort room key with a dining package, like a 1d1p ticket, Disney usually recommends that you wait until you have checked out of your resort before upgrading to an annual ticket. The reason being, an annual tickets always have to be printed on paper stock and will take the entitlement off of your resort room key. Sometimes this can mess up your reservation/dining plan. Just a good thing to keep in mind. I hope this helps!

I have a strange question. I have the 1 day ticket from the MYW dining reservation. We are going back in October and wanted to upgrade to 3 day park hoppers. However if we like the food and wine and plan on going back next year could I upgrade that 3 day within 14 days to an 8 day park hopper no expiration. I know I can do the first upgrade but not sure if they would let me upgrade to a longer ticket. thanks.

Yep. You can make as many changes as you like within the 14 days of first use.
