Ticket upgrade after last entitlement use question

I might decide to do one or more park days before/after a cruise.

I'd buy a 1 day ticket to begin with. Then go on the cruise. Then decide if I want to add a day or two in the parks.

Those pre and post cruise nights are booked onsite (DVC).

Since I'll have to link that 1-day ticket to MDE (to be able to pre-book FP), and that it becomes unreassignable after that, it should be upgradeable, correct? The whole point of not being able to upgrade after the last entitlement use is to prevent resale of tickets. But tickets linked to someone's MDE account couldn't be resold anyway, right?

According to CF's ticket sticky:

"In addition, effective August 1, 2011, if you have used all of your entitlements on a ticket the last day of use of entitlements is also the last day that you can do any sort of upgrade. So if you had a four day ticket and your fourth day of use was a Friday, from Saturday onward you cannot do any upgrade even though it is within the 14 day period. Note this does not apply to to tickets on the KTTW or to multi-day Florida Resident Tickets; in these cases the Guest name is preprinted on the ticket and they may add days after the last entitlement is used as long as they have a photo ID that matches the name preprinted on the ticket."

The rule is that you cannot upgrade a generic ticket (one that does not have your NAME printed on it BY DISNEY) on any day AFTER the day that you use that ticket's last asset.

Will they make an exception on individual cases?
Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

The "good" news in this is that there is very little difference in buying two separate one-day tickets and a single two-day ticket.
But, if you decided that you wanted a THIRD day, the difference price would be about $12 cheaper if you were upgrading from
a two-day ticket.

IF you are staying at a WDW Resort and you buy your ticket as part of a "package"
you will be issued a ticket WITH your name printed on it BY DISNEY and you will have
14 days to upgrade it, even if all of the assets are used up.

Thanks for the reply Robo :). I'm DVC, so no way to buy the tickets as part of a package. And I should have specified that I'd get hoppers.

Anyhow, I was curious to know if they'd updated their rules now that tickets are no longer printed, and come preloaded/linked in MDE.

It seems absolutely logical that the MDE system would allow for a controlled upgrade of an "all used up" ticket.
But, it is likely something that has not been formally addressed, as yet, and
also unlikely that ticket CM's have been retrained in the process.

You can give it a go and report back.

I have a 5 day hopper with water and fun pass. I have used all 5 days at major parks but only 2 days at minor parks. Can I still add a day at a major park?

As long as it has been less than 14 days from the first use of the ticket, yes.
