Ticket structure and price change “opportunities”

As a note this thread was started before the end of DL annual pass

We know that given the hit WDW has taken from covid and the cost cutting and revenue maximizing have seen so far (DME, park hours, staff, park and other building projects) and revenue maximizing that everything is on the table.

With this I thought I would open up a discussion on what might change in regard to tickets. This includes both what you believe Disney is likely to do and what could make WDW vacations more likely or more enjoyable.

Again the criteria is that it has potential to increase Disney revenues (since we know that if it does not it is very unlikely to happen).

I am assuming that the parks after covid recovery will be running at near 100% capacity as before

I will offer 3 metrics that may have an impact, though I am hopeful other have more

Increase the average per day visit ticket revenue

Increase the average per hour in park ticket revenue

Balancing intra and inter park attraction demand to increase effective capacity including to lower cost or even revenue generating attractions.

I will give my ideas in separate posts (over time) so that they are easy to respond to and ask other posters to do the same. I am not basing these on what will be popular, but rather just throwing out idea, and if any are beneficial to guest that is just a plus. Some may actually decrease average pre day but are intended to be used on combination to make other more acceptable

OP thought 1

Since the middle 90s WDW has increasingly front loaded the ticket cost to the first few days As of noww a 4 day ticket is 75% of the cost of a 10 day ticket. The best guess is that this was a defensive strategy to keep families from vising the other Orlando competitors. I certainly appears that this strategy is loosing effectiveness, and the 10 day limit may be causing a shift to other sites for those visiting Orlando for a few days more than 10

The impact of this is that average daily revenue has dropped significantly as compared to shorter stays.

As of now a 4 day stay generates from 118 to 149 dollars per day where as a 10 day ticket generates 54 to 70 dollars per day. This also means that the added days over 5 are only generating and average of less then 20 dollars per day. That level of quantity discounting does not exist in any other industry that I am aware of.

The obvious solution is to recurve the ticket prices.

Here is a first shot and is started with the DL prices with some adjustments

No hopper before tax average of date range variance, expire at length plus 50% days

1 130
2 240 add 122 ave 120
3 330 add 90 ave 110
4 420 add 90 ave 105
5 500 add 80 ave 100
6 570 add 70 ave 95
7 630 add 60 ave 90
8 680 add 50 ave 85
9 720 add 40 ave 80
10 760 add 40 ave 76
11 797 add 37 ave 72.5
12 840 add 43 ave 70
13 884 add 44 ave 68
14 931 add 47 ave 66.5
15 975 add 44 ave 65

As part of the Idea 1 adjustments discount tickets $5/ day for those staying on site at values, $10/day for moderates and $15/day for deluxes

No discount to partner hotels

As part of idea 1 allow 6 day to 15 day tickets to exchange 2 days of full days for 1 after 2pm day and 2 after 4pm days and allow 12 day to 15 day tickets to additionally exchange 2 days of full days for 1 additional after 2pm day and 2 additional after 4pm days

idea 2 Extend availability of Florida resident after 4pm passes to all guests

Note: Annual pass sales are current suspended and it is unknown if/when sales will resume. Annual pass cost has increased by 64% in the past 2 years. If that rate continues in 2024 and annual pass will cost $2500

Eliminate unlimited annual passes

Replace with time limited (eg 3, 6, 12 and 15 month) and day limited passes with flexible usage dates, no free park parking but 50% discount, free resort stay parking DVC discount 10%, option to exchange 1 full day for 2 after 4 passes for each 5 days purchased. 5% discount above standard discounting for on site resorts

Examples

3 month 15 day pass $1100

12 month 15 day pass $1200

6 month 20 day pass $1300

12 month 20 day pass $1400

15 month 20 day pass $1500

6 month 30 day pass $1500

12 month 30 day pass $1650

15 month 30 day pass $1800

Family bulk purchase non expiring passes

Purchase a minimum of 50 days

Assignable to members of household. also others staying in on site in accommodation reserved by and concurrent with family visits.

50 days $100/day $ 5,000

100 days $90/day $ 9,000

200 days $80/day $16,000

400 days $75/day $30,000

Idea 4

Time based tickets

At this time this would require a dedicated entrance and exit line to time log visits.

Assumptions include 15 minutes non charged allowance for entry/exit time

10% charged time discount for on site stays

Timeframe limited tickets

24 hours ($12.5/hour) maximum 5 days to use $300

60 hours ($10/hour) maximum 12 days to use $600

90 hours ($10/hour) maximum 18 days to use $900

Extended timeframe tickets

60 hours ($12.5/hour) maximum 30 days to use $750

100 hours ($12/hour) maximum 90 days to use $1200

180 hours ($11/hour) maximum 360 days to use $1960

OK this is the last "opportunity" that I have looked at.

Returning to tiered ticket in the vein of how DL worked from 1955 through the 80s (but more tiers rather than ride/attraction tickets)

I Would see tire 1 being at the current or above price and allowing unlimited access to all rides and attractions (except special paid for events) This would include FP

Tier 2 would be available at a lower cost and would eliminate FB for top demand rides and attractions let say 5% discount

Tier 3 would not have access to any Fast passes so lets say 10% discount

Tier 4 would not allow access to top demand attractions and no FP 15% discount

Tire 5 would not allow access to rides and high and moderate demand attractions and no FP 25% discount
