Ticket Scalpers!

I had to try over 10 times yesterday but I did get my 4 tickets at about 10:14:cheer2: . I kept getting a sorry message but I kept starting over.

There is only season ticket holders for sporting events not concerts.

Don't do online sales. That is where they clean up- those "codes" they make you fill out are a joke. The scalpers do it all by computers- tons of computers lined up all programmed to buy at exactly the right time. Also much more powerful computers than you or I have. While it might not be convenient for everyone to have to buy in person. I think it would really cut down on scalping. And I know some bands have changed the way tickets are sold- I can't remember but I think it was Limp Bizkit?

Lots of computers. That's what my husband thinks.

Again, back in the old days of buying tickets while standing on a line, scalpers would pay people to wait and purchase the maximum amount alllowed. Would standing on a line cut down on scalpers? Maybe a little.

Some venues do have season ticket holders for concerts.

Some venues allow sports season ticket holders first dibs on entertainment. I used to get great AI seats a long time before they went on sale to the public by buying our company seats.

I remember when I went to my 1st concert it was back at the time of waiting in line while we were in line overnight the news was there doing a story about the fact that the 1st 25 people in line were all homeless people that were being paid $10.00 and dinner from McDonalds to wait in the line and buy tickets for scalpers

Exactly. I have a friend who knows a ticket broker, and they have a program on their computers that just automatically goes into the system and buys up all of the tickets. The code you fill out to prevent that was hacked by them a long time ago.

And I don't think there's any way to stop them, as long as they're buying those tickets legally. Years ago I waited at a Ticketmaster for Bruce Springsteen tickets. An entire family, at least a dozen people or more, managed to get to the front of the line, and each of them bought the maximum number of tickets for each show...10 shows in all, and I think they each bought 20 tickets per person. They held up the line for a good 2 hours getting those tickets, and no one could do anything to stop them.

I'm trying to get Springsteen tickets for his current tour, couldn't get through on Ticketmaster and one of my friends tried to hook me up with her ticket broker friend. It's great that this guy bought up the tickets I wanted to get and now wants to charge me at least 3 times what I would have paid for them. (I turned her down.)

Ticket scalping is legal in many states, it is here. I think people would be shocked if they saw how many states it's legal in.

I would hate it if they stopped online buying for tickets. I get everything that way.

Yes season ticket subscribers do get first shot in some stadiums. If you are in the lower bowl at many stadiums you pay a fee for that benefit. It's a perk and it's well deserved. You are given it for being a loyal customer.

Remember too that many companies have blocks of seats and because they are given the perks as mentioned above, they have first shot at those tickets. So before the tickets are even available to the public, many of them are already sold.

I can see that happening. Did he ever get caught or reported?

I don't know about this whole zip code thing. I understand that it was done because of the public outcry of scalpers from out of state getting the tickets, but again, how would ticketmaster know if it was a scalper or a legitimate fan making the purchase? It does stink for the out of state fan who is willing to travel to see a show.

the manager said there was nothing we could really do b/c they were there early and always the 1st in line. As far as he could see they weren't doing anything wrong.

Plus Chris was always so charming if there was a problem with one of his guys they would call him and he would show up and smooth everything over with the other people in line. I'm pretty sure he would give the other customers money and once when someone was really really pissed I saw him buy their tickets for them

I will say this much. There was a time when many people who worked for promoters would run little ticket scalping scams. We knew of one promoter whose staff was notorious for it. He would turn a blind eye to it. Not all promoters would allow it though.

I don't think it happens as much anymore though, maybe with smaller promoters, and that is a big maybe.
