Ok I have spent the last couple of hours confusing myself. I've been reading on aps vs myw with no expiration and am trying to figure out the best plan for my family. This might take a little to explain so sorry for the length in advance.

Here's my situation:
We just got back from WDW and bought 7 day ph tickets. We didn't use the last day but didn't buy no expiration. It has been more than 14 days since the first use. Can I use the value of the remaining day towards the purchase of a new ticket?

Also, my husband and I are planning a trip for Sept 7-10 for the night of joy and then another trip for our whole family (us and 2 teens) for the first week in June of 2008. My question is should we buy the 10 day myw ph with no expiration now and we can use them for both trips (for husband and I)? Then buy the kids tickets next year for just the 6 days of the June trip. Or should we buy aps for the kids. And would I be able to use the value of above leftover tickets to purchase this?

We are new dvc members and know we will have more trips coming so I have thought about buying the kids 10 day myw with no expiration in June but don't know how many more trips son will be going with us. Since his will be in his name I don't want to waste them.

Really sorry for the length and appreciate any insight you guys might have.

There is no value on your unused day...it expired 14 days from first use.

A rule of thumb is...if you can get at least 8 or 9 days out of it, the AP is worth it (considering the DVC discount). You should have purchased the AP instead of the 7 day expiring hopper, you'd have saved quite a bit of $ considering the trips you have planned.

For the kids...I wouldn't buy APs unless they'll be returning to WDW within the following year.

Yeah I do realize that now but when we took this trip we were still just pondering becoming dvc members and our next trip wasn't reality. Of course after we did the open house and read about the referral discount now seemed like a much better time to buy than later. So thats where our plans for our next trips have sprung from. And if I could only go back!:rotfl2:

I've done some calculating and have come up with really close $ amounts with the different options. I'm thinking if my DH and I buy MYW PH with the water park options and no expiration we could probably use them for both trips and then maybe another weekend in 09 (depending on how many days we actually use for 07 and 08). It looks like the difference is only a couple of dollars. Anyway, thank you and I do agree about the kids. Of course if we have another pop up vacation after June 08 I'll be regretting not buying aps.

AHHH! So much info to process!

It is difficult to decide because there are so many ways of looking at both options. I've had the DVC discount AP and MYW (well not really but old hoppers) and my head still hurts deciding most times.

The AP was so wonderful to go into a park for short times and not feel anything about leaving after two hours. So nice. Just to have ongoing and short access if we wanted.

Our AP just expired and we used PHs from 1999 and 2003 these last trips. Tells you a lot. With MYW tickets you can extend and extend through so many years especially with staying in a DVC unit. I could even do a Value resort trip in the past without wanting/using a lot of park time. And with DVC a lot of new members find that there sometimes is a change about any "running around". Some.

And then there is the Water parks and PI. We didn't get the Premium AP so first we used extras on old PHs and then out of pocket. So sometimes I want MYWs for the extended life on them and the extras right on the ticket.

And then suddenly we pine for the ease of the AP. But can't afford APs so often. It gets ridiculous in this head.

There are so many ways of thinking about what is "best".

Yes I know what you mean lisaviolet. I've been spending quite a few hours trying to research and figure it up every different way. I don't want to miss something but think I have come up with using myw with water park and no expiration. Although I do see the savings and convenience of aps I think that the myws will be able to last more years. We realized on this last trip (Dec) that everyday at the park isn't always "vacation" oriented. So with 10 day myw for myself and dh we will be able to get 10 park days and 6 plus visits (water parks, etc). For us that would equal 16 use days for as many years as we need. I think our next 2 trips (Sept 07 & June 08) will only use 8 or 9 of them and that gives us 6 or 7 for another small trip in 09 or maybe even beyond if we plan right.

I really like to hear how other people have bought and planned and split these tickets up. Gives my feeble mind other options. But I guess it all boils down to planning.

You know I'm smiling cause you said, "that every day isn't a park day" anymore. Do you know that we once did a ten day trip with no parks? We had days left on a hopper and every day woke up and said, "nope". Did TL but no park parks. I suspect with DVC you won't become a lazy, go with the flow, long afternoon nap vacationer like us but things will change a lot.

So I think those MYWs are a great idea. And especially your NE, and WP option.

Another thing to consider. You can buy APs online through the DVC member website for the discounted member rate. You then receive a voucher in the mail to turn into WDW when you arrive. The best part is that your APs are not activated until you turn that voucher into WDW, not at purchase. So, if prices rise between purchase and activating your APs at WDW, you are still set.

Also, with the AP, you can buy for $60 the Disney Dining Experience Card for 20 percent off meals and alcohol at many places.

Keep it coming, keep it coming....

You guys are really helping me, a DVC newbie, who plans to book in the next two weeks!! I was having this conversation 10 minutes ago with another DVC member over the phone.

AP seem like a good deal (especially with the DDE card), but I'm not totally positive if we'll make it down in 2008. I'd like to say we will, but I'm not positive. In that case, the MYW with no expiration date, would be better.

Is there a way to look on disneyworld.com and calculate the MYW tickets price?

Thanks, guys!

Is there a way to look on disneyworld.com and calculate the MYW tickets price?

Sure is! When you get to the site go to the link that says tickets and reservations and then just fill out the info. You can also go to Mousesavers.com and follow the links to WDW and then tickets and passes. Read through and you'll see a link to list advance purchase discount prices. I compared last night with them and disney's site and they are accurate, just easier to look at.

Good luck!
