Ticket question

I was asked a question at work today regarding disney tickets and I knew you guys would be able to answer it!

This family is planning on buying AP's in the summer but they are going on a trip at Christmas too. Because the Christmas trip was not planned they are not prepared to buy AP's yet. If they buy 4 day hoppers with no expiry and they DON'T use up all of the days can they trade those unused days in and pay less for their AP's.

I know that when I bought my family a 4 day hopper pass, and then decided to upgrade to Fla Res. annual pass they did allow me to use the unused portion for the pass... that was in 2004, so not sure now because of the ticket changes this year

I don't think it would be a problem, but if you did that, I beleive that the AP exp. date would start on the date of the ticket's first use.

The unused days can be traded in but I'm told not much value will be gotten. The AP will start on the day it was acquired, but double check the back before leaving Guest Services. One formula somebody quoted was to subtract the value of a ticket containing just the days used, in this case subtract the price of a 3 day ticket, and they'll get trade up value of what is left, something like thirty dollars which is $14. for day four and the rest for a share of hopping (maybe not) and for the added cost of making day four not expire.

I'm told that getting full value for your old pass (and having the AP start when the old pass was first used) is only available when you make the trade within 14 days of using your old pass.

Any bank savings accounts without withdrawal penalties that could be raided to buy AP's with? (Discipline needed to put back the money soon.)
