Could we purchase 1 four day park hopper and use it up in one day with four people using it?

No, you'll have to buy four separate tickets.

'Fraid not. The Park Hopper tickets are date stamped (swiped)when used - so they (WDW) know if when the card's days are up....

Plus - it's one ticket per person - and they do check this when you enter the parks's turnstiles....

And on top of all that, in the eyes of Disney the tickets are non-transferable. So I doubt they would go to lengths to allow you to share the ticket.
