Hopefully this makes sense. We are doing two days at Universal. We want park to park for at least one day to do the Harry Potter train. The other day we really don't feel that we need it though, as we feel like we can do one park one day and one the next. Just trying to save some money anywhere we can. Can anyone tell me if this is doable and makes sense? Thanks!

You can do it, but you will not save any money.

Your best bet is to go to where you are going to get the tickets from and price them out.

You will probably be surprised what that train ride will cost you.

IMO Park to Park has more benefits that just getting to do the Hogwarts express.

Both parks definitely have ebbs and flows throughout the day and there were times when we went and things were a bit busier on one side that we hopped over to the other where it was slower. I wouldn't want to sequester myself to one park or the other for the day as the freedom of movement between the two just opens up a lot more options on any given day you are there.

We are going over Thanksgiving without Express or Early Entry. We really wanted to do the 2-park 1-day and do the train. I am not sure we would get enough done considering it will be busy. Looking at the ticket prices though we decided now to do the 1-park 2-day tickets. That will allow us to more leisurely tour the parks and take in the atmosphere. The premium they charge for doing the train is too steep IMHO. I know everyone raves about it but we will just end up skipping it.

This is an interesting breakdown. The prices are from undercover tourist. I was expecting the per hour cost to be a little. A $2 difference/hour doesn't sound too bad but when you multiply that by 12 hours and then again for a family of 5 it is pretty significant.

Any way you slice it you are paying either $45 or $49 for the ability to hop between parks and to ride the train. That is a 45% premium in the ticket price! If I did the math correctly.

1-day 2-parks $160 approx 12 hours of park time. $13.33/hour pp
2-day 2-parks $226 approx 24 hours of park time. $9.41/hour pp
1-day 1-park $111 approx 12 hours of park time. $9.25/hour pp
2-day 2-parks $181 approx 24 hours of park time. $7.54/hour pp

It sounds like this works for you.

For us - factor in the fact that the 2 day 2 park ticket is actually a 3 day ticket, and it changes things. We usually go for 3 days and enjoy the experience, stay in a Universal resort, etc.

3 day 2 parks $226 if you use 36 hours, then $6.28 per hour.
