Ticket Question: tickets that you have to sign and present ID?

I just bought two Universal tickets (two day passes) - these are different than what I'm used to . No magnetic scan, - has a bar code instead (I think) and you have to sign it each day of use and show your id.

Is this the new way? Anyone with any experience with these? Seems like it would slow you down at the gate.
