Ticket Price Increases

yeah, i think they are really discouraging people from buying APs...

noo disney makes the AP seem more affordable in the long run. with all the dscounts and stuff that they WANT people to buy them..and we do and if you do you math it really is better then getting a ticket each time you come.. plus parking..food etc... each discount we get we save a little extra bucks! it really does help!

This is not good. :confused3 I read about this earlier this week when a PP photog emailed me the link to the article in the OC Register.

Last October I got a SC AP for DD10 and myself. At the time she was off track in Jan., May, and Sept. So it worked well for us. :goodvibesUnfortunately our school district decided to change (after her doing year round from K-5) to modified traditional. That meant that after her last break in May 2010 she wouldn't really be able to go unless we upgraded our AP.

So this I did in early July. Cost me $170 for both of us. (after a lot of discussion with CM at ticket window and her lead-I was able to pay the difference between the price I paid in Oct. for the SC AP and what the Deluxe cost then). Unfortunately all upgrades must be paid at time of upgrade (can't pay monthly). The lead actually told me that when you buy an AP you should buy the one you need so you don't need to upgrade later.:confused3 Well, duh, I would have if I had known about my DD's school schedule change. :flame:

So now when it's time to get our AP again (and I won't be automatically renewing-they never offer a good enough incentive to renew without a gap ) for just my DD and myself it will cost $$658 plus $99 (Yikes) for parking pass. Total $759, just for the 2 of us. After deducting the price of 2 one day tickets and one day parking I will be looking at around $600 balance which will mean $50/month. And that's just for 2 people. I can't imagine how say a family of 5 can afford it. It would be $125/month plus the cost of 5 one day tickets.

I know I have the option of getting myself a premium AP to save on the parking (net additional cost about $120) but I honestly don't think we spend enough on food, etc. to save $120 in a year.

This just really sucks!

Maybe since we are going to WDW in Sept/Oct. I should look at upgrading to a Premier Passport. I believe I can apply my 2 day base ticket (bought to get free QSDP) to get the Premiere ones. That would be a difference of about $540 each. Total $1080. So the difference would only be about $300 more than the cost of

$760 for 2 Deluxe DLR AP plus parking on one
$320 what I am spending on 2-2 day base tickets.
$1080. Total

$1400 for 2 Premiere AP. Difference would be $320 and that would give us unlimited access to WDW for 12 months along with DLR. I probably need to upgrade one of the 2 day base tickets anyway to give me more days at WDW this trip. I usually buy a 10 day, PH, with pluses, no expiring to use over the next few trips. That would be approx. $620, or an upgrade price of $420. $420 is less than $320 so it may really make sense to get the Premiere Passes.

Plus I can see us going to WDW on more time within 12 months if we don't have to pay for tickets. If I could get cheaper rooms and decent airfare it could be possible.

Did I just talk myself into getting my DD10 and myself Premiere AP?:rotfl2: I wonder if I even can though. My DLR AP exp. 10/18 and we are going to WDW around Sept. 27th.

So, I was reading your post carefully and trying to follow all the details regarding school calendar and pricing choices and decisions so as to really follow where you were headed and then I got to the end. And I think I just have to say....

...
Did I just talk myself into getting my DD10 and myself Premiere AP?:rotfl2:...

Ummm.... I think you did. :rotfl:

Deluxe AP's went up $30. Does anyone know if the 1 day tickets went up? We have to wait to purchase because of GAD and I'm wondering if that deal just got $30 worse than it was yesterday.

The one day is now $76. I'm also using my GAD to purchase a Deluxe AP in Nov and now it's going to be $26 per person more.

Anyone else notice that there will be a 2 Day base ticket now? But the difference between that and the 2 day hopper is only 10 bucks, so it's not really worth it! :confused3

I also noticed the savings on buying the 2 day without PH is a whole $1 :cool1: from buying 2 1 day passes. :rotfl2:

Yes it is. Man it is really looking like a bargain, oh wait I forgot no DVC discount so I shouldn't renew. (that last part was sarcasm)

This made me chuckle. i did read the dvc boards... some folks get it some folks don't.

I know it IS super expensive. Especially for families. I too had the passes when they were only $99. Just to put in perspective though - when my passes were $99, There was no DCA, no DTD. Now at $184 as So Cal pass holders we're getting double the parks and the fun of DTD. Not too bad...
I will say the parking is out of control though!!!!!!

...I will say the parking is out of control though!!!!!!

I dont know if this makes it seem better at all, but I did a little online research.

Magic Mountain - $15
Knotts Berry Farm -$12
Universal Studios - Parking Opening - 3:00 pm $14.00; 3:00 p.m. - General Parking Close $10.00

I don't think the parking is crazy....I just paid $17 to park at the Oakland A's game yesterday. The ticket prices are ridiculous. They have more than doubled in the last ten years. We already have tickets for our trip in October, but after that I think we might do one more trip in about three years and that's it. Way too many other places I can go for cheaper. And at least my kids will experience other places. Disney has helped my decision!

Ain't that the truth. Believe it or not I overheard people saying at a DVC event they will continue to pay for two separate passes because of the no DVC discount. In my head I was like, really? Well there money if they want to spend over 200 bucks more for two passes, as a Disney stockholder, I day thank you.

New prices are now fully on the disneyland website and tickets are valid through 12/31/2011. Time to really start planning and buying for the 2011 trip. YAY!!!:cool1:

I think an increase EVERY year and especially this much in a year that is a recession is asking a LOT if you ask me. I can tell you I have had a deluxe every year since 06 and when I first started getting them they were in the low 200 range. I got them for myself and my 2 young daughters and then the following year we renewed and got them for the whole family but by the year after that it was getting too much and I just renewed for myself alone so that we could get the discounts on the food. Also I was going on more trips with a group here on the dis so it made more sense for me to have one since I was going more than the entire family and economically it was more feasible.

But I can honestly say that with this BIG jump I don't know if I will be renewing mine next year. We usually try to do at least 2 trips a year but with these huge increases I am thinking that we are going to be relegated to once and possibly even every other year. We live up north near Sacramento so we are close but not close enough that we can go more than about once or twice a year. If we lived within an hour or two I think it would be more feasible and I would possibly consider it more but this is when it becomes more of a dilema. If we lived in another state it would not be an issue but for those of us that are close enough to make a few trips a year but not close enough to go every few months it really hurts.

I know if you factor it out compared to the parkhoppers it is a better deal but LOOK at those parkhoppers. THOSE are outrageous as well.

Now for our family of 4 to go, esp since my youngest will be 10 next year and we will ALL have to buy adult tickets it is going to cost us over 1000 bucks just for tickets alone!! That is crazy! Disney was always a pretty afforadable vacation since we could usually either drive or wait around till we could find cheap airfare and we could get deals on rooms but now the park tickets are getting so outraegous that this is no longer going to be doable either. This makes me really sad because this is our FAVORITE place and has always been somplace that we enjoyed going at LEAST once a year to see the new things etc but now I don't know if we will even be able to do that :(

I guess us DAP holders now know how the PAP holders felt last year.

Bought the deluxe AP voucher for $299 yesterday at Vons. Does anyone know if they'll honor it when we go in September, or will we have to pay the difference?

There was a pretty good stack of them left at our local Vons, but I'm not sure how long it will take for the price to catch up with the park price.
