Ticket Price Increased 8/3/2008

I just got an email from Mousesavers with a link to undercovertourist for a "discounted savings"... is this the same thing as the one that comes out on the 15th - or will there be a bigger savings then?

I just got the same one and I believe it's the same ~ just a little extra reminder that prices are going up and to buy tickets while UCT still has them in stock.

They only have a limited supply of the current prices, and when those are gone, you'll have to purchase at the new price. :)

I purchased mine last week before the increase was announced, but I'm sure they'll be flying out the door now that the price increase has been pointed out here. ;)

For what it's worth....mousesavers.com's hot announcements is also saying it is RUMORED that the prices will increase this Sunday. Since it was the first Sunday of August last year and the year before, there is at least some logic to it happening again this weekend. Mousesavers' special link to UndercoverTourist will save you a dollar or two more than their regular discounted prices. (and just so you know, Mousesavers' special link is not allowed to be posted on DIS or other boards at Mousesavers' request....you have to be a newsletter subscriber or know someone who is).

We have AP's, so I don't have to worry about this, but if I were planning to go between now and say the first quarter of 2009, I'd probably buy them this week before the price increase IF your personal finances are stable.

If my trip were much later than 2009, OR if your personal finances are a bit shaky OR if you have to use a credit card to finance it (meaning you won't be paying off the card before it begins accuring finance charges), I wouldn't buy now....instead I'd put that cash into an online savings account and get some interest on it.....that should about equal the increase, and honestly, with the economy going the way it is, there is every reason to believe that deals will be more frequent in 2009 from Disney (think about it....not many deals now mostly because those who were already planning a trip are likely still going, but read the boards to see how many are NOT planning that next trip yet). And remember, the best deals are usually on packages which means that you have to buy a ticket with it.....so buying now may exclude you from a package, or mean that you will negate your savings by having to buy another ticket. Disney (at least as of now) doesn't allow you to combine two tickets.

For what it's worth, the increase last year was only a few dollars. A 7 day increased $9 last year....a 10 day increased $10. Annual Passes (basic and premium) increased $14. Obviously if you need several tickets for your family it does add up, but remember that Disney will have your money now, vs it being in your bank account. With the economy tanking, and the future of the economy unknown at best, think long and hard about whether having that money in your bank account will benefit you more than having that money in a non-refundable ticket. If you need that money later will it be worth the savings if you have to borrow money or charge something and pay finance charges later? Online savings accounts earn 3%+...not a lot but better than most local banks or under the mattress pays....and in about 7-8 months should earn about equal to the projected price increase....but it'll be at your disposal if you need it.

If you DO buy it, keep it as safe as cash, because that's what it is.....unless you buy it directly from Disney's website there is NO WAY for Disney to trace lost tickets that haven't been activated....and even if you do buy it from Disney directly, there is no guarantee that they can/will replace it if it's lost or stolen. If it's stolen and used by someone else, Disney won't replace it, and you're out the money. If it burns/floods/is eaten by the dog....it may not be replaceable. So keep it safe from loss, theft, and destruction! Scan and save copies of the receipt and tickets to your computer, or at least put the ticket ID numbers in a separate place (address book on your computer or cell, take a photo of them, send copies to Grandma, whatever) to increase your chances of having them replaced if necessary.

Consider the fact that EVERYTHING is going up in price, and you're not rushing out to buy 100 pounds of hamburger to hedge the probable increase (I read this weekend we can expect food prices to rise by 4-8% by year's end). So consider how a Disney ticket is different from trying to buy ahead of the increase for necessities like food.

Ok...off the soapbox.

Well, IF the rumor about prices going up this weekend are correct, then by the time the 15th rolls around the discounts will NOT be on the OLD prices. Mousesavers' extra discount is only a dollar or two off UCT's regular discounted prices, so if you are going to buy anyway, I'd buy before the price goes up, not wait until the 15th to get the link. Or...find someone that has the link from today (or July 15th's newsletter) and get the best of both worlds, lol.

ETA: Oops, typo....should have said the discounts will NOT be on the old prices. Duh. Sorry!

Has anybody purchased from OrlandoFunTickets? I think this is where I got them last year.
Sample comparison to UCT (subscriber link from Mousesavers):
MYW Hopper Adult (w/expiration)
OFT - 7 Day $254.08; 10 Day $263.37
UCT - 7 Day $260.97; 8 Day $267.00; 10 Day $267.95

Did you add in shipping costs to Orlando Fun? Unless you're planning to make a special trip to pick them up in Orlando, it's not free. One other thing to remember with OF, no refunds.

Undercover tourist offers free shipping. They also offer some options for refunds-read details at their site.

Just a few more points to consider.

Thanks, I did forget to add it it in - it is $8.95 for regular shipping.
I did realize they are non-refundable; I wanted to just give everybody another option, especially if driving, definitely going, etc.

Luckily I had bought 10 day park hopper no exp. back in April for upcoming trip in August. However, I wish I could buy about 4 more sets of those tickets for future trips between now and the year 2054.

Oh, I bought from Undercovertourist, and it was a smooth easy transaction.

While I know you were probably just being funny here, the fact is that it's not the wisest choice financially. A 10 day hopper went up $9 last year.....costing $225. If you put that $225 x 4 = $900 into even a simple 3% interest bearing account you'd earn about $25+ a year.....much much more than the cost increase. And if you really aren't going again for 46 years, the you have time to invest that money in something earning a much better interest rate...in fact, a decent money market and that $900 invested today could probably pay for your room and tickets in 46 years.

Oh, and to answer some other questions.....yes, Undercovertourist prices include all taxes and shipping is free....so the price you see is the price you pay. And they do have a rather nice refund policy......so if you buy from them be sure that you keep that little bag SEALED until you actually are ready to use the tickets.

After looking again, they do not include taxes. I just happened onto the site as it was still in my browser links for Disney. This just goes to show, always research completely and comparison shop (unusual that I didn't with my OCD).
Like I said in my earlier posts, I was unsure if this is where I purchased them last year and was just trying to get more info myself while offering options to others. I'm not trying to take away business and have purchased from UCT in the past with satisfaction. Please don't beat me up on this; all good deeds...
I'm done now.

On average- how much of an increase was there from this year to last year? Someone said it was like 4.00 a ticket?

We have 3 day hoppers, but I want to upgrade on arrival (after we use once) to a 7 day hopper. I would hate to spend much more than 5-10 extra $$.

I booked a package, but only have the 1-day ticket included.
We planned on upgrading to a 10 day pass when we got there. I take it we will have to pay the increased price for the tickets?

And from what I can gather, I should use the 1 day ticket first and then upgrade to a the 10 day? Let me know if that is correct.

I am also wondering about this.

ARIBELLE, I agree with your soap box! That answered my question/statement earlier in the thread. I hate feeling pressured to buy something because of a price increase unless it's a huge difference, ie hundreds of dollars. that's not to say that I felt pressured by the DIS but when I first got the mousesavers this morning I started crunching the numbers and with our budget we weren't planning on buying our tickets until closer to our trip when we will have the cash available.

So I'm sticking to my original plan and I will pay the rumored increase.

ROBO answered this above. Use the 1 day pass FIRST. Then upgrade. The cost of the upgrade will be the difference btwn the NEW 1 day pass and the NEW 7 day pass...once you use the pass, the cost of that pass is now 'magically' the cost of what a NEW pass would be, so the value for it on trade in IS the new cost- not what you paid for it b4 the price increase.

I don't think anyone was beating you up :grouphug: I think maybe we were all trying to be sure everyone compares apples to oranges. UCT is definitely loved around here, but if a true better deals comes along, I'm quite sure another company could share (or take) the love.

UCT's prices include tax and shipping.....in my opinion and research it is the free shipping that makes their prices about the best out there. And to be honest, it makes me see red when someplace charges $8 or more for shipping tickets...even insured and signature required don't bring shipping costs up that high.....so they're working their profit back with inflated shipping.

Between 2000-2008 ticket prices went from $46 to $71 (roughly a 55% increase during that time). I'm not sure where I could put my money and get that kind of return. I know my 401K hasn't done that well during that time.

If my sources are correct .. comparing apples to apples will be harder. The ticket 'structure' .. how tickets and options are offered ... will be changing this year.

It's going to be interesting come Friday to see if any of this comes true.
